I used to play every evening.
I don't now.
1) every update broke the game for my PC, and i had to *#$@ about fixing it.
2) too many angry people. Perhaps i never grew that thick skin, but my attempts to try and join the "community" used to make me miserable (in so much as an online game can)
For those who remember me i ditched alleg, joined a band, and am now making money playing guitar. Sweet.
I do miss it occasionally though....I remember the day i killed weedman. Granted i had QF3 and he was in some scout or other, but i'm counting it.
Why don't more people play this game?
I've started to play twice, and quit twice. Lasted a month or two both times. Must be stupid or crazy, because now I'm thinking about going for #3 in the hopes it can be different.
I think the second biggest reason I stopped playing is because the game requires such an enormous investment of time and effort to learn even mediocre skills. It becomes more work than fun.
The biggest reason is Allegiance's huge G.I.F.T. factor. The game has nurtured a culture of poisonous personalities that simply aren't pleasant to be around. You think it's normal and acceptable behavior to tell internet strangers they're $#@!ing morons, (expressed in a way that just barely avoids officially breaking any moderation rules, of course) and it's the $#@!ing moron's fault for making the mistake in the first place. No thanks, not interested in feeding a sociopath's ego, and I have more than enough anger management issues of my own; I'll go find something less stressful to do with my leisure time.
But some of those matches were so much fun! Ehh... maybe I'll give it another shot. Again.
Oh yeah, and I was upset that the few Allegiance vids I made turned out to be incomprehensible and bewildering noise to anybody who doesn't already play the game, so that effort was wasted.

Well, I think your vids are awesome and should be used in advertising of alleg. You might also make updated vids. Too bad it has so little views.White Owl wrote:QUOTE (White Owl @ Sep 10 2014, 12:12 PM) Oh yeah, and I was upset that the few Allegiance vids I made turned out to be incomprehensible and bewildering noise to anybody who doesn't already play the game, so that effort was wasted.
Hi I am Vanca2... kiss my aaasteroid!
I remember you White Owl and your videos. I completely understand your frustration with the poisonous personalities of the game. But I also understand that most of these people are so ultra competitive that they use any means possible including the grey areas of the rules of conduct to gain an edge over their opponents, whether they are experienced or not. I can tell you that the enforcement team these days looks out for returning players and new players with much more vigor than before. We will not stand for harassment.White Owl wrote:QUOTE (White Owl @ Sep 10 2014, 03:12 AM) I've started to play twice, and quit twice. Lasted a month or two both times. That said, if you do come back I can assure you there will be a time that some mouthy idiot will come at you with criticism in game. If you tell them to $#@! off and they persist, that is harassment and myself and every other enforcer will ban them for the set amount of time based on the rules that were put in place more than a decade ago.
The toxicity of some in the community has been measured to be a strong factor in what has kept players away. It will not be the same going forward, I personally guarantee you.
Your videos also gave me an idea (more likely reanimated) of getting more people on this game. As I tried to suggest later, I think Youtubes Let's play is quite widespread and we could use it in our advantage. I had an idea but I can't realize it myself.
I think if we asked one of the Let's players to make video about Alleg it would definitely lured many ppl in here.
Problem is, that I am not very good at speaking in english and it would be great if someone, who can explain what's needed, would accept this role.
I can participate in this by finding suitable Let'splayers. For example: http://www.facebook.com/AchievementHunter with 2.8 mil subs. What do you think community?

Hi I am Vanca2... kiss my aaasteroid!
I absolutely don't understand the bitching about people being hostile in this community...
Have you played Quake3?
Have you played Counter-Strike?
Have you played WarThunder?
Have you played CoD?
Do you know what kind of hate I saw there? Not to mention that every other word is "idiot" or similar (often unprovoked or justified)
Alleg community is not 1/5 of what those games are like
Seriously if you can get offended by a random person on the internet how insecure you must be?
Also people do get frustrated... Its a release valve to blame someone... If you don't want to argue their claim just ignore it (I do!). It doesn't mean he's right if you didn't reply to his insult...
Sticks and stones...
;
Vanca I think its a great idea but I don't have a fb acc or do I think that I should approach him with my 'drunken russian' accent

Case in point, quod erat demonstrandum. Djole88, I do not want to play any games with you, personally. You seem like a very hostile person, and it would make me angry to play a game with or against you. You, Djole88, are directly and personally part of the reason more people don't play this game.Djole88 wrote:QUOTE (Djole88 @ Sep 10 2014, 06:17 AM) I absolutely don't understand the bitching about people being hostile in this community...

typical twitch-based fps games aren't really the same thing as allegiance. In alleg there's a defined command mechanic, which heightens how much someone can piss you off. It's one thing to mute some rando jerkbag in a CS game, it's quite another to mute your own commander.
Also, your arguments are "other games are worse" - that doesn't mean we don't have a problem - and "if you get offended it's your own fault" which turns the blame away from the abusive *#$@s causing the problem.
Why should we accept abusive *#$@s in our playground? Why is their ability to be abusive *#$@s more important to you than everyone else's ability to play the game without getting an abusive *#$@ slapped in their face?
If you're standing in a room with an 11-year-old and a 32-year-old and the 32-year-old is spouting racism, sexism and vitriol, are you going to turn to the 11-year-old and say, "Oh, just ignore him"?

I can vouch for Djole88 as a good person and as a great asset to Allegiance. I don't think anything he said in his response warrants labeling him as someone who would inhibit people playing this game. The ability to parse meaningful constructive criticism is essential in this game as it is in real life.White Owl wrote:QUOTE (White Owl @ Sep 10 2014, 04:32 AM) Case in point, quod erat demonstrandum. Djole is not a hostile person, he only mentioned that other games' communities include MUCH more vitriol than ours as a comparison. His comparison may be flawed by the fact that our current player base is comprised of a much higher ratio of empathetic-players-to-not as compared to those games with a much higher player-base.
What you said to him is worse than what he said to you in my book. Regardless I stand by what I said before and I hope you give this game another go!
