EndGame v Element

Write-up courtesy of Aeropagitica:

Endgame and Element squared off against each other in the first round of pre-season matches Sunday. Element's superior squad attendance gifted Commander Thallium the choice of map settings. He chose Ammolite (small). Element (Belters-Yellow) opened with push up the middle. With Ryu commanding, EndGame (Draconium-Blue) mirrored the move resulting in a massive opening battle in the center-system. Element arrived first, successfully mining the aleph just in time to gain positional strength. Element's fighters won the initial battle against Endgame's light interceptors, securing the outpost middle.

Thallium quickly researched bombers. Aeropagitica and Kramari were tasked with harrassing bomb runs while the remainder of the team executed miner offense and defense missions. Element was able to destroy EndGame's low outpost early, delaying their map expansion. Thallium built supremacy first, and with the bombers keeping Endgame on the defensive, was able to invest in a Tactical lab as well. Ryu set up and upgraded his expansion for heavy interceptors to solidify home defense. Endgame's pilot-talent paired with heavy ints quickly turned the battlefield into a blood bath; END pilots TheAlaskan, Bastard, Hockey and Ryu all massing more than 20 kills. Endgame also produced Heavy Troop Transports quickly, and made a devastating attack high against Element's Supremacy, capturing it. In the wake of that fight, Element's pilots were in pods so Ryu's team road the momentum, capturing Thallium's garrison, also.

Element boxed itself in defense on their tactical lab, and mounted three successful defenses against Heavy Int Escorted HTTs. But Thallium still controlled the middle of the map, and he executed a counter-attack led by Malicious Wraith (Liquid Mamba) in Stealth bombers, destroying Ryu's Expansion. Endgame eventually penetrated Element's defense of the tactical, but not before Element had invested in another. This bought Element time to counter attack, destroying EndGame's captured assets, re-establishing map control to Element.

It was Endgame's turn to turtle shell in defense with a new home-Expansion. Attrition was taking it's toll though, and Ryu's pilots were starting to fall off. Thallium pushed Endgame's home sector with waves of stealth bombers in kamikaze-style waves to guarantee success, and Element came back from the brink of destruction to win a very bloody battle against Ryu's command of EndGame.

RESULTS: ELEMENT (0-0) def END GAME (0-0)
MVP: Frobozz
Winning Commander: Thallium
Losing Commander: Ryu

Zenith v XEXY

^Phantom032@Z (Dreg) v spideycw@XEXY (Dreg)
Map: Star
Settings: Med-Med

Both teams started out by sending their opening op cons high. Zenith found the high alephs quickly so we boosted to camp. I ordered one of our scouts to peak high where we saw XEXY forces camped there. Sadly our peak scout died, so we were left without a proxer. Suddenly the XEXY op con burst through the aleph followed by most of XEXY. Zenith forces tried to boost around and get all the nans before the con, but XEXY ints got us. Both teams' op cons ended up planting high about 3k from each other. Zenith's opening tp went to the U rock at its mid choke. XEXY's opening tp went to a U rock at the low choke.

P32 decided to bomb the high op, so after a bit of a delay, we made sure the bomber was launching in the direction of the enemy op and we got it. Zenith sacrificed a miner in order to get the high op.

After getting the high op, Zenith bomber ripped mid and went on XEXY's newly built expansion low. Sadly a bunch of our nans ran straight into prox and the bomb run failed. However, during this time KingJoffrey@Z solo'd a full miner.

Next Zenith sent an op-con with full team escort to XEXY's mid choke. XEXY had just built their own op there, but was unable to stop the construction of our op. Zenith eyed miners low so we took a large force down there, but failed to kill the miner. While this was happening KingJoffrey solo'd another miner.

XEXY sent their next op con to our mid choke Expansion sector where we were unable to stop it from building. Luckily LA_Cajun@Z launched a bomber from our expansion and got enough good rams from about 5 nans to destroy the newly constructed op con.

XEXY turned their attention to our op in their choke and successfully bombed it. Around this time KingJoffrey solo'd another miner.

Zenith heavy ints came online, and htts a little bit later. We took a full force from our Expansion to XEXY's expansion while they were mostly out of base doing something apparently. With the help of a large escort, ^Shizoku@Z capped XEXY's Expansion. Firestorm@Z took that opportunity to bomb XEXY's mid choke op. At this point XEXY had only their home sector. XEXY got a starbase and gunships which thwarted our first attempt to end the game. There was talk on our mumble about doing some grav type stuff like get a Tac, or seismics for the rest of the U rocks... ha. Instead we got mini2 and pushed an op to their home, which planted. Mini3 came online and we camped XEXY gar, and shiz capped it.

MVP: KingJoffrey (it's possible I'm forgetting even more miner kills)

Good game.

Great work to all squads for their turnout, especially Element! It was great to have some proper squad games after so long. You all deserve a lot of credit for seeing this through! Congrats. Unsquadded players are encouraged to reach out to try to join squads! Element seems to be doing the best player-base-wise so try any of the other three for now.

We will take a break next weekend and have another round of exhibition games on August 10th at 3pm EDT

Zenith v Element

EndGame v XEXY

Mark your calendars for August 10th at 3pm EDT!

I'll make a formal news post soon. Also I think we'll start a short tournament for the end of August through October and November. Stay tuned!

Have you all forgotten how to do a write up?

Feels dang good to be back in the hot seat for some squad games. Looking forward to seeing all the squads improve, pretty good way to kick things off.

Nice work Element!
