I was looking for a spacesim, and Allegiance was included on a list on reddit.com somewhere.
I've always been interested in RTS/FPS hybrids, so it didn't take much to decide whether I should try it. Someone also said that Allegiance is to Sins of a Solar Empire as Mount & Blade is to the Total War series. Sins: Rebellion and M&B Warband are 2 of my favorite games, so that helped catch my attention.

Honestly, I don't think I've been here long enough to tell what needs improvement, but I can see why you'd want to have better marketing. I've suggested playing the game to a small online community, but most likely only a couple of members will actually try the game because of the high barrier to entry. Not much you can do about that marketing-wise unless you specifically advertise the newbie-friendly community and training opportunities (which I think you guys already do).

Thanks for posting.I'm one of the guys using Reddit to promo the game.I'm glad to see people are starting to join as a result. There are many resources to help you learn. One of them is here:

Yeah, I've been reading the wiki, but the issue is that a lot of people interested in more complex games can be put off by having to essentially do research and read pages upon pages of info on the game before they can even be a tiny bit competent at it.
I'm a mod over at the subreddit for Sins, which is another game where you need to know a lot before you're decent enough in an online match. We have loads of resources for new players, too, but interactivity helps a ton while learning, which is why a dedicated training program seems to be preferred most of the time. I've seen some things on the forum regarding cadet training and flight school, but I'm not sure if those are still running.

If you see Yiggz online, I think he has a class of three or four Cadets that he is working with. Really, most people with an @Alleg tag, or who post in this thread, would be happy to spend some time helping you get up to speed. Myself included ... if you ever see me (usually between 8pm-midnight Pacific on weekdays, 0300-0700 GMT), I can help answer any questions you have.

As Raum pointed out, we do have a wiki, but yes, it's big and a major wall of text. If you want to cut quickly to the meat of the game, I recommend three must-read articles:

The Quick Crash Course, where you learn the basic scout. The Miner O Guide, where you learn to do something more exciting than just probing.Commanding for Dummies: not that you're a dummy, :D , nor do we suggest you approach the comm seat just yet, but this is a great resource for better understanding at least what the comm is thinking. (Opening and Expanding is also a good follow-up to understand basic Alleg strategy).

Work is ongoing on a replacement client for Allegiance, which will run cross platform and ultimately support scripting of training missions. It's a long way off, but if you or anyone you know is interested in game development (coding, art, etc...) and want to get involved... http://www.freeallegiance.org/FAW/index.php/FreeAllegiance

What is the possibility of submitting this to Steam as a F2P ? It is cross platform and they love that sort of thing . . .

Not sure. Before we submitted to steam we'd likely have to replace all the ms assets and code. So we'd have to replace the alleg-core module. But that's at least a year out, maybe more.

Yeah, I have noticed, but I'm not going to let that deter me! One thing is that the experience gap is so large, it feels like against certain players that I can't do anything, be it fight or run, I just die instantly xD Still fun, and shows I have a lot to learn
