This is especially true for anyone who lives in a city, certainly anyone who lives in a European one.
The US was not designed with mass transportation in mind. A vehicle is generally required if you want to make money. Thus the car is one of your greatest investments in the US except for a few cities that still have light rail.

No country really was, its just here it is way easier to expand because we have tons of space around big cities, rather than cram into them like sardines. The Seattle area is still rapidly expanding, for instance Bellevue was a cow pasture with a crossroad 50 some years ago, now look at it

Good public transportation is a solution to a need for something. We do have a decent amount of people who ride the bus/train from way out, but generally its still a lot faster to drive. I dont know about you but I'd rather deal with higher costs to spend two less hours traveling during a work day. Currently there are a few big projects in the works for light rail in the area too, so its not like we dont see the need for improving

The emissions problem is going to work itself out anyway, over 80% of emissions are from burning non-renewables. Non-renewable, meaning we're going to run out (sooner rather than later).

The real problem is dealing with the damage we've caused (and will cause). Everything else is a side-show waste of time. That means carbon capture tech, and clean energy production to replace fossil fuels once we run out. This is not a hard connection to make buddy, i'm confident you'll get it.
Jesus. $#@!ing. Christ.

I officially give up on you.
