Windows Version (and Service Packs): Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
Video Card (Make and Model#): AMD 7970 Ghz Edition (2 mismatched screens - 2560x1440 and 1920x1080)
I know that my old graphics card had the functionality to add letterboxing to the screen on both sides. Within catalyst control center I have tried to enable graphic scaling with no apparent change. Allegiance still launches in fullscreen and with a horrendously stretched picture. Any ideas would be great since this would really be the ideal solution due to the way allegiance likes to throw radar bits in the peripheral gutter.
Also, is the procedure listed here to hard code the resolution still the only way to achieve a 16:9 AR while flying? I may have to just settle for that.
Fullscreen Letterboxed Allegiance
I figured out how to make it work.
For AMD:
1) Open up CCC and find the drop down labeled "My Digital Flat-Panel"
2) Select monitor/output to configure
3) Check "Enable GPU scaling"
4) Notice options are greyed out since you are a reasonable person and run your desktop at native resolution.
5) Change desktop to anything other than native.
6) Marvel at the fact that you can now pick between "Maintain aspect ratio", "Scale image to full panel size", or "Use centered timings".
Option 1 will letterbox but still fill the screen vertically (YES), option 2 will stretch the game so every pixel is used (boo), and finally option 3 makes a black bars appear around a tiny window into allegiance (why)...which you more or less already get by playing in windowed mode.
This should apply to all games that don't run well at native res or those of us that like big ass text because we are getting older (holy @#(! its been a while since I first started playing this game).
TLDR: Change your desktop to something that isn't native res to unlock these options.
