How would you prefer to see the game designed and moderated Brood? I'm genuinely interested. What do you think is the best policy for the devs and mods to choose, so that the game draws a large crowd of satisfied customers.Broodwich wrote:QUOTE (Broodwich @ Feb 3 2014, 10:51 PM) faircore all over again
Star Citizen / Elite: Dangerous / Enemy Starfighter / No Man's Sky

Don't get me wrong Virulence, EvE is what it is, and that is fine. The wacky Icelandic devs set out to develop a ruthless Libertarian dystopia with emergent, player driven economy and content. It's meant to be harsh and cold, and a lot of people enjoy it just for that.NightRychune wrote:QUOTE (NightRychune @ Feb 4 2014, 10:33 AM) cold harsh universe, noob
What I meant is that the devs of Star Citizen are trying to do something different, and it can be a genuine problem for their plans when EvE powerplayers like the Goonfleet migrate over and try to continue the same level of metagaming as is allowed and even encouraged in EvE.

I dont really care atm, mmo's arent really my thing, since their entire point seems to be grind for more xp. Then theres going to be those people that dumped a @#(! ton of money on the game and you have no chance against them etc. I probably will try the single player if its good and some mp but dont really see myself investing much time in it. Open world is only interesting if theres a story to tell and lets you decide how to end it.
Alleg was fun because you had a good chance against the opposing team because they didnt start with hvy ints and gs longtoms, and skill was needed to decide the game. MMOs are more of a stat battle than anything else

This is why I only play Allegiance.Broodwich wrote:QUOTE (Broodwich @ Feb 4 2014, 09:17 PM) I dont really care atm, mmo's arent really my thing, since their entire point seems to be grind for more xp. I think anybody looking for SC to be a lot like EVE is going to be sorely disappointed. I think CIG is making a game that's more tightly controlled and geared towards actual fun and player skill. EVE has never been about skill. It's about numbers and time, and really not much else. Take Alleg, for instance -- Bacon can be in a Heavy Int, and Shiz can be in a scout, but Bacon will lose that fight pretty much every time because Shiz is better at the game, plain and simple. I'm cautiously optimistic that CIG lets skill reign supreme, which will make grief-seekers have to nut up or shut up.
Not to say you won't have highly skilled griefers causing chaos, but in that way I feel like if that's the case, then they've earned their place. If you're good, you're good. That's part of the game. To again use Alleg as an example, if somebody told you "Weed is camping the aleph," you'd nope your way out of there and find another route. If somebody said "Bacon is camping the aleph," you'd probably take your chances. Fingers crossed that SC has more in common with Alleg than EVE, which my gut tells me it will.

If you make skill matter that much, then aimbots/etc become a significant issue... and there isn't a game that had dealt with hacking effectively. (just youtube any game name + aimbot). As for game "awareness" skill, that will matter a lot less in a MMO, and is also a skill required in EVE.
tl;dr : if griefers matter so much to you, no matter whether game is EVE-like, or quake3-like, griefers will grief in whichever way possible, and there is always a way to grief.

If you're going at this idea of "some people will abuse the system or cheat it so it's gonna suck," you should probably quit the internet. No matter what game you play, in general more time invested into a game means you will be better than someone with less time. You complain(ed) about this all the time in the form of "stack". The more time you put into the game, the better you get at it. That's what the numbers game is.

Hmm, I guess you really haven't looked into either SC or Elite Brood.Broodwich wrote:QUOTE (Broodwich @ Feb 5 2014, 04:17 AM) I dont really care atm, mmo's arent really my thing, since their entire point seems to be grind for more xp. There are no skills. No exp to grind. The only thing you can achieve in either game is rep with factions, bounties on your head and money. Elite doesn't let you put in real cash for the money, at least so far, where as SC will let you buy credits. Even with that the plans for SC are such that it's all about player skill, just like in Allegiance.
If you get involved (and the game actually comes about, and is good...) you'll be able to earn a hot fighter craft with in-game money, and then own anybody with less joystick savvy than yourself.
