How will players be able to have competitive PvP gameplay in nulsec space if the optimal strategy is always to get the biggest ship and have the biggest NPC army? Where is there a place for player skill or single seat dogfighting in competitive play with such a system in place?
Seriously?

Star Citizen will be fully instanced anyway, with combat encounters scaled to "the party". It will be a MMORPG space shooter.

Which bit of this makes you think it will be a competitive PvP game which devolves into EVE with better graphics? In good and bad, it will never be anything like EVE.

It's not that I don't think it will happen, I know it will happen.

NPCs are going to function as direct force multipliers, and as capital ship crews they will increase player power by orders of magnitude. If you want to PvP at all you'll have to abandon your single seat fighter and crab an Idris and crew it with NPCs just to keep up with the Joneses. More then that, how will guild warfare in lawless space be able to be anything other then giant player controlled NPC crewed cap ship wings? If you don't go this route you will be out manned and out gunned, period.

Instancing isn't a magic bullet that fixes everything with perfect matchmaking.

The groupthink is strong in here. You lot aren't seeing the forest for the trees.

Here is a quote from the thread I linked, it describes things pretty clearly:

https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.c ... nt_1273645

NPCs acting as direct force multipliers for any player with the means forces gameplay down a predictable path, you must "progress" or level your character this way to compete. There is no way around this fact.

No.

It's not Guild Wars, and it's not a PvP focused game. You're focusing on one facet, and expecting the devs to ignore potential problems.

I'm not worried in the least.

Well.
I'll start by saying I'm returning to Free Allegiance after <Insert years here>. It's been a looonnngggg while. Figured I'd catch up on some epic space combat because.. Well because I missed it haha, and SC has been on my mind since I origionally backed it(Quite some time ago.)

Anyways, as I've already stated, I have backed the game and will be playing. I've been following some aspects of the game quite closely and I'm rather excited about it. I've been coming across quite a few interesting, yet frightening posts/comments/debates about the game and it's driven me more so into being skeptical about the game instead of anxiously fanboying over every second of it.

Regardless of that though, I'll more than likely still play. And I will more than likely still enjoy the hell out of it.

Also, I believe CR implying he wanted pvp to be designed well enough for Esports.
I'm not sure if his views have changed at all but, yeah.
The dog fighting module{alpha}(Said to be released in Dec. but we can probably expect it about February, because.. Well.. Video games.) is supposed to be pretty much death match PvP.
But no, it won't be primarily focused on PvP.

I would REALLY like to get with some veteran pilots or anyone for that matter and at least keep in touch. I know I need more experience and it's always good to have a buddy around.
Ontop of that, if you're not backing the game and you need a better starter ship, I'm totally willing to lend out my ships when I can :P . So that's always nice to have.

Also I dislike Goons. They brought a nasty taste to Firefall when it started up and that bad taste is still in my mouth. They may have been a different group or whatever but I believe I do recall them bringing up EvE online crap every 5 minutes. They were not fun people to share the gaming experience with, and frequently took part in the trolling/experience ruining of other newbies and 'pros' alike.
ok im done rambling.

it seems that everyone wants the game to be as much fun as Chris Roberts, whom by the way is listening to all the chat and forming his own opinion. i can't wait to play the game he makes. i love my hanger and ships, they are so cool. so far so very good.

QUOTE once you give players direct force multipliers (which NPCs clearly are) there is no other outcome or response players can take other then to leverage those force multipliers and force all gameplay toward grinding them out.[/quote]

koreans do dominate games purely based on numbers - number of koreans playing to manipulate the game and number of hours invested
