I recommend Splinter Cell as well and getting through the game just knocking everyone out and killing only those you must to move the game along is challenging and addictive. If your a total nut bag like yours truly you'll drag them back to the same area and try to make designs and/or words with them... Im all better now.

If your looking for something that will take a long time to finish Skyrim is the ticket, especially if you run all the side missions quests and interactions. You can easily burn hundreds of hours without doing all the side stuff. The game is glitchy given the endless interaction between tasks and their cause and effect so it can be frustrating. Save often and the PC version lets you unstick (kinda) most things via editing files. The game also has some balance issues and it tends to punish you for $#@!ing about to long outside with one to many "how the $#@! did I die to *insert thing-a-ma-bob here* moments. It is one of the few games I never finished... one day just had enough.

Yes sir I'm working in Alberta.
Working at a smaller refinery that is doing some pretty big upgrades.
No booze it's a dry camp which totally sucks!
Internet in camp is bad and there's not many channels on TV. Hence the need for a few good single player PC games.
Pay rate is excellent, I'm working 9 days on 5 days off.
The company pays for all flights so I'm home every second weekend which is a nice change.

Getting to experience your kind of schedule/workstyle and it ain't no fun Paps.

On a multiple vehicle launch in Mexico the last five months and the senior management has us on 12 day rotations at the plant, a day of travel on each end (some times it can take over 12 hours to get home with travel to airports, mandatory early arrival there and lay overs). So I'm getting one day off every other week and even that has been becoming wishful thinking with my work cell waking me up on my days off. Today is my first day off in *pulls off his shoes and socks* in about 24 days because I came home a day early and shut off my cell... but I really have to go in tomorrow to give direction to the people coming in specifically to work on my stuff. *sigh* only fourish more months to go if everything goes smoothly  However I know the easy going twelve hours a day are about to be replaced by the sixteen hours days in a few weeks time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Paps
Play through the remake of Half-life for free :-)

The Mass Effect series will keep you busy. Probably 3 of my favorite games of all time. Unsure if your laptop will be able to run them, though.

Skyrim will also keep you busy for many, many hours.

Dragon Age: Origins is also a fantastic single player game. I put in ~100 hours on one playthrough and was sad it was over. Def has high replayability, too, although I never did finish my 2nd playthrough. The expansion pack is great, too, but don't bother with the sequel.

Aside from that, if I were you I'd look into maybe picking up a used PS3 for $150 or so (I found one on Craigslist for $100, but I had to replace the hard drive). Consoles cater a little better to the "single player action/adventure" genre than PC's. If you did that, you'd have a ton of cheap games to pick from that were all the rave 2-3 years ago, but are now in the bargain bin.
