I think I saw a thread years ago where an Admin type (Pook, Thalgor, ... TE?) said that at one point they made a pie in the sky estimate on what the community might be able to raise. They proposed something like $150,000 to MS, but got turned down.

MS aren't interested in selling the rights to Alleg. The time and cost of setting up the deal would be worth more than any money they're likely to make off it so it's not in their interests to sell.

Of course this doesn't stop us talking to them about getting Alleg on the Windows 8 store.

That's actually a really good idea.

Where does "sell" come in
You really think you can "sell a game old enough which could >>I am you father<<" over STEAM?

The only thing on free games on basic earning money is via DLC (Download-Content).

So ... turn down graphical packs online now ... and sort them into some DLC Content ...

What about the technical changes?
You first wanted to go to STEAM to raise the community size ... or differently ... make the game playable again (because you are such addicted to).

Now you want to make money?
"ey ...looks like you got sum clicks too much run, eh, ey"

Get done a ROAD-MAP ... xor ... YOUR EFFORTS ARE WORTH THE THING RUNNING THROUGH TOILETTES.

Such a shame. A platform like Steam would be a fantastic place to get some new blood into Alleg =/ And now days with the booming Indie game market, Alleg's dated graphics wouldn't really phase anybody. If anything, marketing a "retro space sim" would draw quite a lot of interest now when it wouldn't have 5 years ago.

We need an independently wealthy individual to buy up the rights and let us put it up on Steam and start trying to monetize it again ;)

I think with the upcoming resurgence in space sims (Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous) and the increasing popularity of indie games/increasingly jaded attitude towards traditional "AAA" games, now would be a brilliant time to try and reintroduce Allegiance to the general public.

Here's a thought. Make an Allegiance clone - put THAT on steam (yourPersona anyone?)

That's not a simple job. But would be perfectly legal.

There's been a few attempts by various people to do that or something similar but I'm not sure how far they got.

Remember the clone would have to not have any of Microsofts Intellectual property if you want rights to it..

Would be incredibly neat though.
