No kidding they aren't firearms utopias, they have very restrictive firearms laws. I am just saying in the context of Assault Rifles, and only in that context am I making the comparison.

Also bump firing is inaccurate as its usually done from the hip, and is still semi-automatic firing as only 1 bullet leaves the gun per trigger pull.

Nice link Brood.

The Swiss are aware of the problems, and are (slowly) removing those service rifles from people's homes.

11k homicides and 19k suicides with guns in 2011. The other gun deaths were accidents or unknown (they couldn't classify it as a homicide, suicide, or accident with any certainty).

That's 79% of total homicides and 51% of total suicides in that year. There's a very strong link between availability of firearms and suicide rates, as well. Some military bases in the US changed their rules for sidearms and started checking them in at depots while soldiers were on base, and suicide rates basically fell to nothing.

What does that have to do with assault rifles and handguns? I'm not saying it's information to avoid, but seriously.

Most of the people who left comments disputed what the article claimed. Read the comment from the chap who claimed to be Swiss.

I was responding to Cam's question about the numbers.

And, you know, how the guns are actually USED might be somewhat relevant to discussing their regulation.

Guns kill people, but what kind of gun kills the majority of people? 4% for assault rifles compared to the 75% with hand guns yet the numbers for gun owners is 192 million guns: 36% rifles, 34% handguns, 26% shotguns, and 4% other types of long guns

So um lol

0% for assault rifles. An Assault Rifle has to be SELECT FIRE (i.e. full auto). Since those are currently banned, it ain't an Assault Rifle... unless someone illegally modified their weapon or decided to spend 15k on a used Assault Rifle and go through all the paperwork to get a Class 3 firearms license.

If someone went through all that effort to kill someone, that someone surely needed to die.
