From 5000 miles away, I see this gun debate ending in a trench warfare, both parties refusing to give in.

On one side I see "give everyone a gun, so they can kill a crazy man which wants to kill our kids". On the other side I see "ban all guns, so no one can be shot".

I find it sad that the underlying problem, people in such grave emotional distress they are acting dangerously to themselves or others, is barely addressed. Listening to a local MI radio show I frequently hear a Judge, almost begging for resources to help them.

Seeing the popular (now taken off the air) shows "American Guns" and "Sons Of Guns", I really fall of my chair. I can imagine a few thousand Americans which need a gun because they live in an area with bears, deers, or so. When I was in several American cities, I did not see bears roaming the streets. Anyway, I really do not see practical use for a weapon that unloads a clip of bullets in mere seconds.

I can imagine in 1776 is was almost mandatory to own a gun, too shoot a buffalo for breakfast, kill a puma or so. I can imagine a front loaded gun was enough to kill such an animal (or an invading British person). It makes sense that during that era the lawmakers wanted people to have the right for such a weapon.

I live in a country with very strict gun laws, I feel pleased about it. Sure, every now and than some mob gang kills another mob gang member, like 10 a year or so, but at least I can walk on the streets at night without fear someone will rob me with a gun.

What I really fear is the budget cuts on the mental healthcare system in NL.

Go kill yourself, please, Masta. I don't really have any animosity against you other than your arguments. Be an example of your own philosophy, though.

Or wait, you actually look for negative experiences?

Actually most of that describes me perfectly, except not "Political Nihilism". Apparently I'm a libertarian nihilist.

The troubling thing is that you think that is ok.

Disregarding all else and the current situation, so can I. I've never felt afraid to walk out at night. In fact I'm more afraid of someone pulling a knife on me than a gun.

Cultural differences, perhaps.

Switzerland pretty much embodies how America is supposed to function, at least in regards to guns/military/militia/limited government.
The problem is not and has never been the access to guns. The problem is America is NOT a melting pot. Everyone just immigrates (with ease) and gets citizenship (with ease) and then picks their own little spot for their immigrant brethren where they all try to protect their culture with idiocy and violence. The Swiss mandate that you are heavily invested in Swiss culture. America has no culture. It's just a canvas with multiple colors of blood splattered on it. People in Switzerland learn responsibility and personal accountability at a young age. Children in America are given a cell phone, a car, and a credit card, instead. You $#@! up in Switzerland and you are shamed by others. You $#@! up in America and it's not a big deal - it was the government's responsibility to prevent whatever you did, and to deal with it after-the-fact.

Quite a contrast.

Responsible people who are personally invested in the preservation of their culture/their community/their country - with guns.

vs

Irresponsible people who mostly do not care about anything, because they don't have to - with guns.

couple that with the poor not having easy access to health/mental health care, dental, education, etc
things.will.happen.

any jackass with internet access can download The Anarchist's Cookbook
what happens when we ban guns and then some wackjob blows up a daycare (and kills EVERYONE THERE) using some household items? well we won't be banning household items
and then we'll have this push for internet censorship so nobody can figure out how to make bombs
and so it goes

for most of everyone in this community being so well educated, you all sure are really dumb

well the hell is Camaro
