Never liked IPB.. drupal was awesome if i learned it.. (hard learning curve there)..
PHPBB or whatever it was.. was ok also, but not as flexible.
Let guests see more forums than the news forum
Before we switched to Invision Power Board, we used PHPNuke with phpbb2 extension.
"Problem" of IPB is that it's proprietary software. I personal love the moderation and user functions of IPB, but hate it since I have access to the administration panel.
On German Borg website I worked with BlazeBoard, switched to phpbb2 and later to Simple Machines Forum v1/SMFv2.
The main problem of the current IP.B is, that members can't manage groups without a plugin (which is no longer updated by it's creator).
You can imagine what kind of work it is to manage all group requests of our members.
TE planes to move the host of this website, which would allow to administrate it more flexible (with later upgrade/switch of forum software, SEO, aso.).

It's quite annoying that you keep getting the "sorry need to be logged in" message all over - one gets the impression that they are ALL blocked.
I again suggest opening up Gameplay at least, and putting something in the description of accessible forums (in bold, if possible) along the lines of "Accessible to Guests".

If you upgrade IP.B: http://community.invisionpower.com/files/f...-social-groups/pkk wrote:QUOTE (pkk @ Nov 3 2012, 07:00 AM) The main problem of the current IP.B is, that members can't manage groups without a plugin (which is no longer updated by it's creator).
Still in beta though, so might not be the best solution. Surely there must be other plugins out there which let members manage groups.

It appears something has been done about this.
