Windows Version (and Service Packs): Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)

Confirm that you have the following installed:
.Net 2.0 [Yes]

Problem Encountered at Step 8 ("You click the big wide 'Current Games Listing' button below the MOTD.")
Which Program (ASGS/Allegiance): ACSS
What Error Message: "Failed to connect to the lobby."
Comments (What you tried, description, etc):

I have tried everything listed in the Wiki under the "Failed to connect to lobby" category, even though the page itself declares it is outdated. I wouldn't know, because I am starting Allegiance using the (apparently newfangled) ACSS. Anyways, I have tried opening the ports listed using Windows Firewall and Belkin, but to no effect. I had this same sort of trouble trying to play Mechwarrior Mercenaries 4 because I could never access the servers on that game either. I do not know if this is a problem other people are having or what, for I saw no other similar issues in the Helpline.
ALSO: I have downloaded .Net 2.0 manually and installed. However, it said that it was already a component of the system... Could the problem lie with .Net 2.0 not being installed in reality?

Thanks,

Most software firewalls block a specific port which is required by DirectPlay 8. Deactivating the firewall doesn't help, you have to uninstall the firewall (firewall feature of the anti-virus software).

This is sadly the only solution, getting DirectPlay 8 games (like Allegiance, Freelancer, MW4, ...) to work in multiplayer... :(

The build-in Windows Firewall doesn't have that problem.

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

Also, I think ACSS server is not quite ready yet, that may be the issue.

Code: Select all

Ah, okay.

And thank you both for the prompt replies! For a game that is more than a decade old, the community is better than most "modern" free-to-play game communities. They end up making me hate my life. :P

I can't wait until I can play my first game! The gameplay vids on YouTube make it look great, even if there were 30+ people ingame at the time of the filming.

It should be live now, but you may have to download the latest installer to get in. If you didn't install from AllegSetup_300.exe, then you'll need to download again.
