Do not use F2P terminology, as it came to mean something identical to "freemium". A lot of games with micro transactions market themselves as F2P.

peet wrote:QUOTE (peet @ Sep 29 2012, 06:00 AM) You seem to have spend a lot of energy and time on the website, it has a lot of "eye candy". To me, the purple is a bit overwhelming. In the "home" page it fills my screen with purple, than overwrites it with the banner (image). I am using the latest firefox browser. It's a matter of "personal taste".
I could consider changing the header background to black. The only real benefit of the purple background is for those with a screen resolution above 1920x1200. But very few use a higher res and it does not matter much anyway. edit: OK, changed it to black.
peet wrote:QUOTE (peet @ Sep 29 2012, 06:00 AM) I am not sure how it helps the game itself, for me the "original" website, especially after the latest upgrade on the home page, looks decent enough.
No one will find freeallegiance.org on Google. That is extremely important in bringing in new players. Again, it has been discussed in multiple other threads so I don't want to get into too much detail again. But there are several major issues with this website that cause us to rank very poorly in search engines. There probably be will be little benefit from freespacecombatgame.com for at least 6 months because Google penalizes all new domains. In 6 months I expect this website to be getting decent traffic from potential players.
peet wrote:QUOTE (peet @ Sep 29 2012, 06:00 AM) About google+ / facebook / twitter, I am not too keen on this "login with your <insert social media credentials>". I see it more on websites. To me, those social media groups are way to curious about my personal data, and how to use it for their profits.
If you don't want to log in, don't. The main reason I asked people to do it is to increase like and Google+1 counts on the homepage. Whether or not you personally trust social media groups, if we are building a website it is in our best interest to incorporate social media.

Just to clarify, social media is not connected to a freespacecombatgame.com account in any way. There is no login with Facebook option or anything like that. I did not see any reason to add that feature.

pkk wrote:QUOTE (pkk @ Sep 29 2012, 06:51 AM) Wow, you wasting you efforts into a nice to have feature?! Did I miss the fact, that Allegiance runs on IOS/Android?! :o

There is not enough content on your website yet, just skip it.
A little confused on what you mean by this comment. It is always a good idea to have a mobile site and does not take much time to set one up.
pkk wrote:QUOTE (pkk @ Sep 29 2012, 06:51 AM) bbPress is just a lightweight forum, it's not a replacement for a real forum.
I am very aware that it is a "lightweight" forum. But what exactly do you really think you'd lose with BBPress that you have here? Not much, but we would gain some new features I think are pretty nice with groups being the most useful as I pointed out already.

Let me say it again, there are forums built in. But I really am not suggesting to move. As I said, I was already assuming that most would prefer to stay here. The expectation is that freespacecombatgame.com is the "Game website" or "marketing website" and freeallegiance.org remains the "community website".
pkk wrote:QUOTE (pkk @ Sep 29 2012, 06:51 AM) All personal information is transmitted encrypted via SSL (HTTPS)?! WHERE IS THAT FEATURE!
Um it is on all the login/registration pages of course. Also the administration pages are all secured. Other pages have no use for SSL so do they do not use SSL.

Now let me ask, where is the SSL on freeallegiance.org? Everyone should know that their login/password info could be intercepted when you register/login at freeallegiance.org. Kind of bad that these forums are not secure. SSL is pretty cheap.

The only current links to register for a freespaceecombatgame.com account are within the news posts where you can make a comment or in the mobile site menu. As the website becomes more developed, registration and login links will be made easier to find.

FAO doesn't have a privacy policy, which tells you that all personal data is transmitted encrypted, while you don't use SSL. ;)

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

If the login is encrypted, that's it.. where else are you transmitting personal data?

QUOTE As I said, I was already assuming that most would prefer to stay here[/quote]

I'd actually much prefer to move, since these forums still have the BS must login to read and no spidering policies. May even be better if most of the community DID NOT move :D

One quick comment re: CNET logo.. do we really wanna advertise on the front page that the game is from 2000?

Also how about moving this bit to another paragraph/section (even a mini FAQ) on the get started page:
"Note: some settings ... Remapping_controls". It kinda breaks the flow, is not really in sequence and makes it look like a lengthier process than it really is.

Want bigger games? Log on to play at the official game time: 9pmET/8pmCT/7pmMT/6pmPT every day of the week. Also Saturdays 8pm UTC.

Only login, registration, and admin pages need SSL. No where else would any very sensitive data be transmitted. PMs or private forums do not currently use SSL, but that can be done. I suppose I should do that too.

Even so you are probably in the minority. I will get the forum CSS and any other issues fixed over the next few days so anyone can take a look at them and test them out.

Alright, I edited the 2000 out of the CNET logo.

As I said content is rough. Everything was written quickly. I probably will do something similar to the "mini FAQ" you suggested in that page's sidebar. I will leave the social media links at the top of the sidebar, but use the rest of the space for info relevant to getting started with Allegiance.

Sheriff Metz wrote:QUOTE (Sheriff Metz @ Sep 29 2012, 05:24 PM) When I heard you intended this a "promo" site for Allegiance I thought it was a good idea. I think it should only be that.
That domain is terrible to be used for the main Allegiance site. I own allegiancegame.com and intend to use it for that purpose - assuming FAO administration stays MIA.
freespacecombatgame.com being the primary domain for the game makes it seems really tacky and cheap
I went back and forth between freespacecombatgame.com or allegiancegame.com. In the end, given our situation, I feel the benefits of the keyword based domain outweigh having the less "tacky and cheap" sounding domain.

Not only will freespacecombatgame.com allow us to rank much more quickly for "space combat game", it also helps give us a reasonable chance to hit the first page of Google for "Freespace" searches.
