actually the Crown Estates contribute far more (£230 million profit) than the civil list takes out (£7.9 million) per year.

Well fair point, but Government revenues don't already directly translate into tax cuts, unless Bush is in charge.

In regards to rent revenues, I don't know. At one point, the grounds around the Tokyo Imperial Palace were worth a lot of money, but we all know what happened. I'm not saying the value of Crown Estates are overly inflated, but it still seems like the Royal Family isn't really doing much for the bottom line. The grounds will still be there even if they're not, and maybe the tourism factor decreases slightly, but eh.
