"Powered By IP.Board © 2012 IPS, Inc.".

So it doesn't matter if it's open or not. ;)
I can't figure out why IPB hasn't changed that.

vBulletin and even fricking PHPBB no longer display board version numbers. IPB Should have it hidden too.

This version of IP.B is outdated anyway...

May I ask the reason why new forum members aren't allowed the ability to private message until they post 10 times?

When new players join up, it'd be nice to be able to send them a PM encouraging them to keep playing, or provide them information on AFS. Short of using their email addresses from their registration, this may be our only way to proactively communicate with them if you don't see them ingame.

Hmm, what if they could PM, but it was limited? For example, they couldn't do a mass PM to a bunch of members, and there would be a spam timer if they tried to do it too often.

yeah, lets think of the solution instead of the problem. I like restricting PM ability -- like only to AFS staff until they reach their 10 post limit too.

I'm not at all sure a change is needed on this one * shrug * but this is an area that TE has the final say, so give him a pm TheAlaskan.

In response, let's not make solutions to problems that we don't know exist in the first place ;)

The 10 post limit is quite easy to circumvent. Just post some lol´s and smileys on trivial posts, and any newbie will reach the 10 posts in no time...

But on the other hand, others are shy on posting, and could take months to reach the 10 posts. So, no easy solution...

I dunno, one wonders what sort of person is so nervous he can't post a few times in the forums, yet is also brave enough to want to PM people.

Its not only PMs. You are not allowed to vote in polls, and you are not allowed to post in some sub-forums.

But with respect to PMs, its not a matter of bravery. Some people do not enjoy posting unless they need to. But many people say to newbies: "PM me if you need help", or "PM me with your playing times so we can coordinate", and they can´t do it until they spam the forum.
