Everyone else complains that R6 doesn't get released. I complain, that nobody really tests it. ;)

So here we go:
This Wednesday is official FAZ Beta Wednesday. If you run into problems, I'll hang around on IRC/forums to help you get that piece of software running (at least until 6-7 pm EST).

So what do you need:

First, system requirements:
You need the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package installed (download). You need latest DirectX run-times installed (download).

How to start R6 BETA:
Start ASGSSwitch into BETA mode (Menu: Allegiance -> Beta mode)Select Update / Repair critical files (Menu: Help -> Update / repair critical files)Start Allegiance via ASGS in BETA mode

Things you may notice:
Drones stay dockedMiners have a He3 capacity barNumber of probes on MinimapDrone panic changes (no longer aborts ripcording)Save and reload custom loadoutsAnd many more small changes...

I'll put a notice on regular lobby, so people get a second reminder to go to FAZ Beta.

If you found a bug, please post in FAZ Beta forum or on Trac.

PS:
If you having trouble connection to regular lobby after testing, you may have to run Update / repair critical files again, while ASGS isn't in beta mode.
The Escapist (Justin Emerson) @ Dec 21 2010, 02:33 PM:
The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.

Problems:

server creation/join
- takes long, even compared to my sometimes long loading times on R5. Maybe my connection just had a bad day, but I'd like others to check this.

game launch:
- tip of the day was in the wrong position

ingame:
- you cannot tell docked miners to stay docked, only miners that are currently out.
- a single chat message to a miner will undock it, not just a proper command (open chat, write .miner123, hit tab, hit 'a', hit enter. Doesnt work with chat message containing only spaces). One might actually consider this a feature, not a bug.

This worked without issue:
- he3 bars on miners worked fine.
- number of probes worked fine (updated both in sector and out of sector instantly).
- drone panic: didnt manage to get a drone to abort the rip. The icon that the drone was ripping was only visible to the team owning the drone. After the rip the drone noticed it was damaged and returned to base to heal. All good.
- saveable loadouts. Parts no longer available are instead empty slots, normal usage also worked

EDIT: loadouts are core dependant. All my questions solved (for now).

It's been a while, but, if I remember correctly, this was moved on purpose to uncover other parts of the screen.

* nods thoughtfully * Maybe just unhook the servers that don't carry the update instead. Having the lobby down will probably cause a full on panic

I'll find out details and someone will post as to why or why not we can or cannot do this one. If it makes sense I'll send you an invite too. ( Im wanting to stop typing so much and use Mumble/TS/Skype more )

Let me explain:

CODE[..................]
this is the box supposed to hold the tip of the day and the way it looks in R5

[.........xxxxxxxxx]
xxxxxxxxx

This is where the text actually is in R6

The background doesnt change between R5 and R6, only the text position and format change (start further right with same right border = more lines).
Because of that, the longer tips of the day are so long they leave the box on the bottom side and it looks ugly.

I dont know much about that artwork-UI stuff so I have no clue what might be causing this, or how to fix it.

Not sure if pkk left it out when reworking R6 or just forgot to mention its in.
I can't believe I forgot to check for that. Will do tomorrow.

Last thing I tested when Imago was still coding on it was that it all worked perfectly as long as no allied view (2 allied teams) was involved. And in the allied view case, it was only graphical bugs (seeing an asteroid around a station) until you actually eyed that asteroid with your own team. Then it would disappear.

Now that I think about it - There might have been an issue with build spheres not being visible if you eyed the con/rock only after it started building (in case the above change is applied). I'm not sure if Imago still was around to fix that. Added to the list.

And now -> to bed.
