I have seen stories about this material popping up all over the place the last 18 months.

First optical/light cloaking, then acoustic/sonar cloaking and more.

As "slow" as jet fighter article on the subject from NIST back in 2004

Apparently the effect is termed solition and can be seen in waves of water, people in a line moving forward but creating a backward wave, and communication over fiber optics.

Thanks Spawn for an interesting afternoon, all after falling down the internetz rabbit hole to find the link to the fiction story about Slow Glass. Man the amount of things I don't know *shakes head in wonder*
