Yeah, I'm much like you - I like to RTFM.

With regards to conflicting orders, as a rule-of-thumb, it's best to follow the commander's orders. His appear in bold, FYI.

And yeah, everyone knows that you can't follow the chat 100% because of game circumstances. That's one of the charms of this game. :D

Is there any Dumb AI Bot to fill the second team (online or LAN one) so I can test different things requiring a second player (mainly thinking about Eye/signature, at which point a Miner is damaged enough to go back home for repair, etc.).
Not that I know of, you'll need another player to help you out.

That would be helpful to have support for commanding both your team, and an enemy NPC team for training and testing purposes.
It is Karnage! Don Karnage! Roll the r!

Mumufx wrote:QUOTE (Mumufx @ Aug 27 2011, 03:33 AM) Well, I usually try to read about the game I'm about to play. And if possible, test alone what I red. I can't imagine playing while my nose is sticking on the paper "What key is 'target ennemy' mmmh ... Let's see ... ah, it's ... KABOOM!".

But yes, as stated in all those nicely written guides on Wiki, I do read the chat and I do read the map. And, unless ordered, I'll stick to Escort fully loaded with probes + Nan gun.
Welcome, Mumufx! I started only a month ago, but this is a great game. Good to see people besides me joining!

I have great success with a middle mouse button-bound "Target Center." My target nearest enemy is 'alt+e.' These two are going to be 60% of your targeting. I used my others when there's a big furball and I need to be specific. (Con, bbr, htt, etc.)

Also, if you're escorting bombers/cons, bring prox and not probes. ;)

Thank you ^^
So far, the few games I played was ranging from "normally nice" to "hectically amazing".
I'd say whether we won or loose doesn't matter much, it still fantastic (well ... ok ... except when I'm podded 4 sectors away ...).

Oh and I don't know how -- cause I'm not equipped with a second brain maybe -- but it's amazing how all Commanders I've seen can manage miners, send Constructors, fly a ship, write orders in chat and give direct order to player using mouse. I miss here another or two ther brains and at least 4 arms.

You just remember me I bound a key to "ennemy" and not "nearest ennemy". I need to change that. I didn't try the middle mouse button (using 'C' instead) but I might give a try ; I just fear that my heavy finger would tend to accidentally press it, loosing my prey blood-thirsty attacker.

After I red your post I played a game where opponents where flying Scouts only and they were actually raping everyone using there prox (well, they were not exactly raping *everyone* but only newb like me and gave hard time to vet). I was amazed what one could do with prox. Although I don't have their dexterity I was able to kill a few opponents using prox recently and my family still remember that big throat-sounded shout I freed. Thanks again for advice, it was effective (yes, I know, it's also written in Cadet I which I re-red today).

Actually it has nothing to do with intelligence per se, it's simply that they've learned something you haven't yet, one of the key points for being a good commander is being a good pilot, which is why when new players are spamming to command a game I usually say; "learn to fly, then learn to command"... and of course by flying I don't just mean the ability to maneouver a ship.

I commanded several games earlier today which had IMHO a slightly worse commander on the opposing team, however his overall piloting ability was greater and he had good situational awareness, what this basically meant was several 90 minute games where everyone almost wins. The last game was won more or less because when the final actions were occuring, the enemy had a 3 minute jump on us.

So, learn to fly and remember, a commanders job isn't only to do all the things you said, but also to give their team faith, encouragement, and rage on them from time to time... the commander sees the game differently as they are usually able to see what's going on in all the sectors more or less, have faith, be obedient and think outside the box, develop that situational awareness that is the difference from a marginal pilot and a good one- be where you need to be even before you're asked to be there.

Welcome. :)

RB, you mean with the one where they won with TP probes? Did we almost have them up?

Just to complement the 4 arms comment.

One of our commanders do have 8, but we kindly call it as legs.

Funny how you think you've been smashed to the floor so many times that you're done no matter what.... but we were really just a few minutes from taking the fight to them...

I love this game. :D
