Wasn't Origins: Wolverine a made for TV movie?
That was where Wolverine's alcoholic dad realizes that his kids are the most important things in the world, but then he crashes his tractor into a C&W bar and gets crushed under a keg of Red White and Blue, but his plucky wife manages to save the town fountain from the 12 step program that wanted to turn it into a friendship meeting hall. And all this happens in the week between Christmas and New Years day. Frenetic!!
I'm pretty sure I saw that one in-between Oprah reruns on Lifetime.
I think most of the superhero movies that have come out (I've seen all of them as I'm an avid movie-goer) have been pretty terrible honestly.
The only one that has any content or flavor to it is Iron Man. The Iron Man movies are good movies in general not, "good for a superhero movie".
Captain America was very pretty, and very very very very very very very blonde. There was no wit. The humor wasn't funny. I felt no attachment to any of the characters.
Hugo Weaving was excellent, but Hugo Weaving is always excellent. Though at times I thought he sounded exactly like Arnold Schwarzenegger, which made me laugh hysterically at times in the movie that were not intended to be humorous.
Thor was...safe. There wasn't anything that really stood out to me. I left, thinking to myself "that was pretty cool", and by the time I made it to the car I had completely forgotten about the movie.
X-Men was pretty good. The first time I watched it I was very impressed. But that's really only because my expectations were so $#@!ing low. In reality the script is immature, full of cliche, and very stereo-typical; with one of it's main "Messages" being "Love who you are...or else you'll turn into a big blue panda".
But as far as The Avengers goes...I expect Robert Downy Jr to completely dominate the screen, not because anyone intended to do it, but because he's the only one who can actually act, and he's the only one with a thoroughly developed character.
I hated Green Lantern at first, but the second and third times I watched it I realized that the writers had tried to pull of a subtle yet significant character development and personal discovery story. In that I was able to imagine my own version of Green Lantern, that didn't completely suck.
I liked Iron Man, didn't care for Iron Man II at all.
Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
