Got my first Android phone a couple of days, it's a Trident Alpha (or Star A5000 capacitive as a competing vendor names it). To be fair, it does work, @#(!loads of apps from Marketplace (lot free too). Unlocked, with tethering. Cool.
But really, I am so annoyed by the default bloatware which can not be uninstalled. Some apps reappear after I killed the task. No, I do not need IMO Beta (which moron installs beta on a production phone), nor MSN talk, and skip tv tuner too.
I find it unheard that I have to z4root the phone, download and install Gemini App Manager, just to herd the resource hungry apps that insist to run.
What do you think?
Android and bloatware

I think that the developer of your phone should have learnt from Microsoft's mistakes and made 3rd party software optional, even if it's their own.
I join you in "WTF?! BETA software?". This has got to be one of the stupidest decisions any corporation has made with it's software choice.

Yellow eyed, flat headed hissing maniacs.
In my experience, rooting android phones is pretty easy. I always get rid of the bloatware straight away, and install a new ROM. I'm currently using Swedish Spring on my Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade) but Cyanogen is also pretty good and there are plenty more out there!
Superuser and ROM Manager are pretty good, no fuss apps for upgrading the firmware on your phone (obviously read up for your phone and the ROM you want first).
EDIT: spelling

I am scared for ROM flashing and such. After much reading (read: OMG, my phone is broken / dead / unstable) I opted for "freezing" (block app option in Gemini App Manager, menu Expert Mode) the bloatware, in stead of uninstalling / deleting / edit autoboot - entities.
"Freezing" is easy to undone and seems to speed up my phone.
/edit: for my phone z4root v1.3.0 (got it from Softpedia) is the easy way to root, it is just 1 button for "permanent" or "temporary" root access for the superuser. Also easy to get rid of if I need to bring it back to the shop

I haven't rooted my phone (yet), but I probably will at some point in time.
I think the phone vendors (not unlike the PC vendors) are paid to put that bloatware on there. Without this "subsidy" you'd probably have to pay more for the phone (or choose a lower-priced competitor). I can't say that I had much in the way of bloatware on my phone. I imagine that varies from country to country and even carrier to carrier.

Most EVERYTHING you read is fanboi based Peet. That intended insult simply makes my head hurt, and it isn't from misunderstanding some esoteric tech filled point.
Say no to Apple, a worse choice with regard to hardware AND software I cannot find given my take on your world view,. Save it Clay
At the end of the day Android is based on a snarled @#(!ty mess. It has the potential to be better but let us not bull@#(! each other it does take real time to displace the king, who has a distinct tendency to say "eh" an awful lot.

Totally correct. Its the SALE of the phone that is important, not the negative experience advanced users might encounter with resource hogging processes that are hard to get rid of. Pissing off a small part of their userbase is still more profitable than saying no to out-of-the-box software.
Most people are like "eeehhhh, i dont have an Iphone so im cool"
