In other words...don't turn into a police state to save us from those who would turn us into a police state.

I have to admit I've thought pretty much the same. I suspect he won't survive for very long in prison after what he did.

As for the gun laws, this tard had a semi automatic, a high powered rifle and (according to some of the news) an assault rifle. All legal. That is such bull@#(!. I don't care how much fun some people think it is plinking at cans with an automatic pistol. People wanting to shoot guns as a hobby means nothing when the cost is easy access to weapons for tards like this one.

Hunting rifles (bolt action preferably) and shotguns are fine. Handguns should be restricted to to those who need them professionally. The yanks can keep their "armed society" tradition, but there's no reason for that nonesense in Europe.

As for far-right hatespeech, it has been tolerated with the rise of pupulist right wing parties all over Europe. People have worried about Islam, and ignored the fact that most terror is perpetrated by white blokes between 20 and 30 years old. That has got to stop. The neo-nazi and other far right hatespeech inspires these psychos who take the nonesense seriously, and decide to take action.

Careful my friend don't let this lead you down the same road as it did us. Next thing you know, they are scanning your naughty bits at the airport ;)

Frankly its better for the nutters to vent their spleens in a public manner. You get to watch them and more importantly they don't get all frustrated and backed up causing things like Red Brigade and its ilk to develop. I'm aware that people tend to be sheeple and all but this message hasn't a chance of catching o.... oh my. Maybe you do have a point.

the "why do you need X" argument is an oft-cited one, but it falls down on two main points.

the first is that - at least in countries where these things have been legal for ages - the only people who will follow the legislation are those who follow the law, and so are not the type of people who are going to go out and do this type of @#(!. this ineviatbly leaves the bad firearms in the hands of those exempt from the law (ie: the state) and those who dont follow the law (ie: criminals and loons of this kind), and therefore cant ever hope to seriously combat misuse of the bad firearms. secondly, even if it (a selective ban) did work, all it would do is stop people using that type of firearm. if loon X cant get hold of (for instance) an AK, then a bolt action or a shotgun will still enable him to kill a lot of people.

as for:

this is deeply misleading. yes, white blokes between 20 and 30 have been responsible for the majority of terrorism in europe, but the fact is that the vast majority of them were (in so far as they were political, of course most of them were just *#$@s) leftwing - ie: the ira, the baader-meinhof, november 17 in greece, the red brigades, eta in the basque lands and the rest of the euroterrorism mob. should we ban communists?

“Life,” the belgian agri observed, “is a long dialogue with imbeciles.’’

Political/religious ideology is not a good indicator of whether or not someone is going to commit an act like this. You are going to be hard pressed to find any dots to connect across the board here.

Sometimes this @#(!.. just happens. Banning guns, banning people, banning ideologies, praying more, or blaming sating are just silly short-sighted knee jerk reactionary tripe that has never gotten to the root of the issue. Sometimes people are just stupid, fallible, and easily manipulated.
