I have a tactical question.

Situation: The tac lab was under attack. I launched from a base close to it. I had the option of trying to Nan the tac lab against a salvo of missiles or prox the bomber, which was a bit closer.

Is Nanite 1 a viable option to delay the demise of the tac lab when anti base missiles are coming in about 5/6 secs apart? I would have had to fly 1500m to the tac. Say 18 secs

I tried to prox in the event and got shot down before closing to 500m, those turrets were nasty.

there's not really many chances nanning the base will succeed.

killing nans&bbrs is probably the way to go

Yeah... trying to take out the bomb run is going to be the best course of action in almost every situation.

This in itself is something you sometimes have to pay attention to: sometimes you have multiple bases in the sector, and you need to launch from the right one. I know checking F3 and then F8 to figure out which one this is seems like it takes a lot of time, but trust me, oftentimes it takes far longer to launch from the wrong base. :D Totally understandable mistake though, lot of players have trouble with this one.

The second mistake is similar ... don't accidentally launch in a scout, if you can at all avoid it. :D

No, it may take a half a minute of nanning (at the end of which, you're out of energy) just to undo the damage of one AB missle. It'd be bad game design if it were THAT easy to stop a bomb run. If you can prox, that's good ... if you can't, try do what you can to kill nans, even if it's not much, it's still something.

There IS a situation in which swarms of fighters can kill light bases like outposts and teleports with a special type of gun, and on infrequent occasion, proxing and nanning does help -- especially if that swarm was small, and your teammates came in and helped.

sometimes it's inevitable that the base will die, in such cases, consider launching from adjacent sector to try to rescue your fallen comrades so your team can mount a better defense. head over to the aleph and bring some prox, who knows you might solo an unwary bbr going full speed through aleph (very rare). if you know the bbr is close to aleph, dont go through, you'll get shredded by its turrets... instead just sit and drop prox, rescuing what pods you can. the second the bbr enters, go through aleph asap and continue rescuing the remaining pods.

this, trying to prox bomb runs is VERY VERY easily thwarted unless you're rolling bios scouts with hvy cloak in which case it's a bit harder. Any bomber pilot with half a clue will make sure to avoid the scout who just came at him head on because it's just common sense that the scout dropped prox. You're better of in the ship of whatever tech path your team went in the case of defense against a bomber, or if the base is dead you would be best served saving the pods of those who died defending the base.

You can order stuff (miners, constructors, etc.) around by choosing them with a leftclick then rightclick for the waypoint on f3. Other players will see red letters and a sound and get autopiloted to the waypoint if they hit insert. This is a goos way to order a pod to your ship. You can also use it for advanced stuff, such as ordering pilots to the rock, where you see an enemy miner while sitting in base. This way your team knows, to which heliumrock they have to boost, even if you lose eye on the miner.

There is also a number of voicechats, that appear as a command for other player, such as ~5 (attack my target), or ~lf (follow me!).
The ones for pick-ups are: ~np (need pick-up) and ~cs (i gotcha hold still)

~5 "attack my target"
~lf "follow me!"
~np "need pickup"
~cs "I gotcha hod still"

New newbie, new bunch of newbie questions!

1) How do i make a "practice" game? Can i somehow make a game with only me to try out controls, different items, etc? I tried but it tells me that each team needs at least 1 player...

2) Why doesnt the targeting cross appear sometimes? I mean the one that indicates where should i fire to hit a moving target (leading ahead of it by the distance i need to offset my aim to cope for target velocity). My crosshair is already green yet i still dont see that thing, and i miss my shots (even though crosshair is green). I know i shouldt rely on crosshair color, but why isnt the indication of where-to-shoot-to-hit shown?

3) How the fk do i survive the training arena? The enemy that comes for me, he has perfect aim (its pointless to strafe, he hits you every time) and he has same equipment meaning only way to win is to hit him with missile and try to aim almost perfectly, but then, he has a second one who also helps, so you are outgunned by perfectly aiming enemies... what do i do against it?

4) Why when i probe the area, my probes disappear? I am sure there is no stealth somebody doing it, i was probing in a game with like 4v4 or 3v3 on a huge map and still, i come into new sector, lay 3 probes, then lay the 4th one and cannot see any of those 3 i layed before. WTF? I can see enemy probes on the map fine, but my probes are disappearing. I also thought that maybe i am ramming them into asteroids by dropping them at high speed - started to slow down or drop them in a direction where there is no asteroid - they safely stop completely, and then again, they disappear!

5) How do i know if i can teleport to an area? How do i know if my ship has the ability to teleport? Is the teleport interrupted by actions, or, can i maneuver while countdown is ticking?

6) Can i dock to any base, or only specific bases?

7) When scouting and probing at start, is it more important to find every aleph and go into next sector, or to scout every asteroid's kind and find tech/cash?

8) Do i have to "detect" asteroid to see it? Do i have to get closer to know asteroid kind, or after i see an asteroid, i am instantly seeing its kind (ie has it helium or not)?

9) If i'm podded very far away from the base, is there any way to suicide myself to get back faster?

10) I have been podded, i click base-autopilot, then i hear something like "hang in there" and see a command ordered to accept pickup. I click insert. Now i am flying to some bizzare location like enemy space or something. then another command is issued. Then i click insert again. Then i am coming to some waypoint in some blank space where there is no enemy and no friendly... wtf happened?

11) How do i fight a stealth ship? He just comes in, shoots, then hides! Wtf? He can just turn off shields, missiles, then fly behind me cloaked, shoot me in the back, when he sees me turning he will cloak again and go behind me again and repeat... how do i counter it save for teleporting out?

12) Is there any quick "gtfo" command like b-p, in order to teleport away to ANY friendly teleporter (to avoid being podded)?

13) Shall i really bother placing probes below or above blue net? Heard it helps them staying alive...

14) How many probes shall i really place and where? I heard something like "900 away from asteroid/aleph" but is it 1 probe for each object or one in the middle of 3 asteroids is okay?

15) Shall i put proxies in front of every aleph in friendly system? shall i mine somewhere else at regular basis?

16) At what range advanced (fighter or interceptor i dont remember, but it has 3 slots for guns and guns are kinda advanced, big, fire some blue shells, and it has very slow acceleration and like 80 or something max speed, and has boosters) is actually seeing things? I found some miners mining, tried to kill one, couldnt manage to kill him faster than he regenerates (took all my ammo to take him down to 33% armor). I came to base, swapped my scout, came back and couldnt find any miners. I thought they may be gone, then i went into another system (both had enemy refinery). Noone there too. Then i went into an unexplored system and couldnt see a single asteroid. It looks like the detection range is like 3 or 5 times smaller than scout. So how do i hunt those miners? With scout i cant kill em, with fighter i cant see them?

17) In cadet 2 test, they say that correct reaction to being booted is to log in with another account. And today we had a person who had newbie status and another person acused him of using another account, and that persons was not denying he was using another account to hide his real rank. So, what is this about? I've read that game actually records your pc so that you cannot run 2 accs on one rig? Or can you somehow? What is the cadet 2 test question about? Joke?

18) How do i get that Mumble to stop showing that overlay in top right screen? I can move it but i cant turn it off, WTF? Its really really annoying

Thanks!
