The mathematical equation used to pick this date is as follows
The number five equals "atonement", the number ten equals "completeness", and the number seventeen equals "heaven".
Christ is said to have hung on the cross on April 1, 33 AD. The time between April 1, 33 AD and April 1, 2011 is 1,978 years.
If 1,978 is multiplied by 365.2422 days (the number of days in a solar year, not to be confused with the lunar year), the result is 722,449.
The time between April 1 and May 21 is 51 days.
51 added to 722,449 is 722,500.
So-
(5 × 10 × 17)^2 or (atonement × completeness × heaven)^2 = 722,500
It has numbers, that makes it true.

Major assumption right there.
For one, noone can pinpoint exactly when he was born, but based on the "bright star in the east" it likely wasn't A.D. 0 on the Gregorian Calendar, it was probably more like -6 ~ -4 B.C. on the Gregorian.
They should be using Julian Dates anyway.
a = (14 - month)/12
y = year + 4800 - a
m = month + 12a - 3
Julian Date Number = day + (153m + 2)/5 + 365y + y/4 - y/100 + y/400 - 32045 (dropping fractional portions of quotients in the division according to wikipedia)
Computing for 1 Apr -4 B.C. I got 1719567 JDN but I also forgot leap seconds and only computed to 4 digits past the decimal point.
The online calculator I used got 1719689.5 but when I convert that back to Gregorian, it adds two calendar days, so they're doing some funky rounding there.
NOW WHERE IS YOUR MATH?!?!
and of course I just realized I forgot to add 33 to the year for crucifixion date (making it 29 A.D.), but the equation is right there if anyone wants to spend their theoretical last 20 minutes on earth calculating it.
