This is the only sport in the world (outside of combat sports) where you are allowed to beat the stuffing out of a player and not have your team penalized because you will both side in the penalty box. You can even DESTROY your opponent and have their team get a penalty if he clearly initiated the fight.

In my old leagues our helmets were too hard to take off, steel grill and all, so our fights were all helmets and gloves. (nobody wants to punch a steel-grill or a plastic visor with their bare firsts.)

Devastating body-checks were my favourite over fights though. Serious suspensions in the minors for fighting. You get an even larger one for taking off your helmet or throwing down your gloves.. (encouraging helmets and gloves? Is this league in the pocket of the helmet lobby-group? Those fights destroyed gear!). I remember one game for an out of town special tourniment I had a clean open-ice hit on somebody skating directly into our zone with the puck. No dekes. No play. No chipping it in. He just expected that I'd let him walk right through me LIKE A EUROPEAN. WHAMMO!!! My shoulder with a lot of weight into it right to his chest. He couldn't breath for a while and had to stay down for like at least 3 minutes.

The ref came up to me and basically told me although it was a clean hit and everything (edit: even went as far as to call it "awesome", just too hard), but that he was going to have to give me a penalty anyway because the home crowd would riot otherwise. :P
You clearly havent seen Australian rules football

no.

Not unless South America develops a bitchin' hockey league and sends some players up to the NHL with a similar hard hitting level of play. Then I will accept your use of "Americans" as a continental demographic of people who play a certain style of hockey thing.

Otherwise don't group us together, especially with hockey. Just sayin'. We pwn dem. Most recent proof is shown below:

(shut your whore mouth about the World Jrs. Damn you so much Russia!! Double damn them for this one too! Urg.. Canada's missing out its best playa's for this IIHF dealeo. Even had some higher profile cats not in the playoffs skimp out on the team. Tsk tsk tsk.)

Sounds like Latin America needs a healthy dose of Americanism. Should I go ahead and resurrect Teddy Roosevelt and charge all costs in sweet sweet South American gold?

Sure the Chinese 'could' do it. But really?

not rly, we still have NFL, MLB and MLS matches here, i'd get rid of the last too and reinstall NHL, auss football, and the NZ rugby cup.

Sorry old boy, but Wikipedia disagrees with you.

QUOTE One difference between NHL and IIHF rules is rink dimensions: the NHL rink is narrower, measuring 61x26 metres (200x85 feet), instead of the international size of 61x30 metres (200x98.5 feet).[109] Another rule difference between the NHL and the IIHF rules concerns how icings are called. In the NHL, a linesman stops play due to icing if a defending player (other than the goaltender) touches the puck before an attacking player is able to,[110] in contrast to the IIHF rules where play is stopped the moment the puck crosses the goal line.[110] The NHL and IIHF differ also in penalty rules. The NHL, in addition to the minor and double minor penalties called in IIHF games, calls major penalties which are more dangerous infractions of the rules, such as fighting, and have a duration of five minutes.[111] This is in contrast to the IIHF rule, in which players who fight are ejected from the game.[/quote]

The comment about South Americans developing decent hockey players reminded me of my thoughts watching the Finland - Sweden match.

"Wow, this is the worlds premier cracker-fest". Just pale vikings on both sides

No way. Not unless Finland has better plastic surgeons AND better implants than Hollywood.

I can spot fake boobs at quite a distance.

Fake Boobs do *not* sit like that and there are no scars in the usual places.
