Im not trying to start @#(! but I just read a bio of Winston Chruchill call "Warlord"

The man lived one hell of a life.

So my question is to the Britts: How is WC viewed today in GB. I am currently listening to a collection of his speechs found here: http://www.archive.org/details/Winston_Churchill

So my question to todays Germans: How is WC viewed in Germany. How is WWII taught in your schools?

How about Austria and other German occupied nations.

What about Italy?

Same goes for Japan?

To expound on Raum's question

I'll give you my take on their reactions from a smelly Yank POV

Germany = sack cloth and recriminations for past mistakes with nationalism viewed with real fear until the current generation

Japan = aggression is bad and I'm the victim too ala Firefly

comfort slaves, and millions of dead Chinese in shallow graves

how rude to mention

Italy = huh there was a war and anyway we quit early PLUS we hung the bastard so there

Occupied countries = that was bad of you and we'd be mad if we didn't need your loans

Russia = US view (see below) but smells of vodka instead of whiskey and a few million more dead

US = USA! USA! USA! Where is our sammich?!?

Britian = there there Yanks stop the jumping about your spilling our tea all over our stiff upper lip monuments to the true winnahs

Churchill is viewed as a war hero and a legend as far as I know.

I obviously have a different view, but people generally tend to shove everything else under the carpet as everyone does with national icons and such.
