Time to Think With Portals
Portal 1 was a lot cheaper then Portal 2. In fact Portal came with 2 other games in the Orange Box for a similar price to Portal 2, for a full priced game you would expect it to be a lot longer then the original (though to be fair Portal 1 you could complete in an hour)Bard wrote:QUOTE (Bard @ Apr 21 2011, 07:57 PM) People expecting portal 2 to be long obviously didn't get the hint from portal 1.
you could complete the original half life in a half hour too :P
i think the first portal took me 4 hours or so? idk im not gonna pay for a full price game if its not actually a full game. I really liked the first one but just a doubling of the time to finish does not mean they can charge 10x the price of the first one. prolly get it christmas when it goes on sale for 10-15

I don't understand how a quality of a game can be determined from its length. Maybe if content was deliberately cut out to be added as paid DLC (the Robot Enrichment store doesn't count), but if you played it from beginning to end, then you should judge what you paid for against what you played, not how long you played. That said, the new test chambers weren't particularly challenging since there were very few action sequences requiring reflexes or advanced portal techniques.
The whole game is a mix of action and puzzle (lol not that I need to explain it here), but both are rather diluted. Valve did introduce A LOT of new content, but seem to have held back in the campaign maps when it came to utilizing the new features to their full potential, or combining the features to make an even more complex test chamber. Once the SDK is released, I'm sure better maps will come and in the meantime, there's always coop, which I'm still replaying over and over again. We can probably also look forward to free content updates, just like with every other Valve games.

From what I've read (and listened to in the dev commentary), the single player was supposed to be more for story than hard puzzles. Towards the end they kept mentioning having to dumb down the puzzles and cut whole segments out (crusher panels) to keep playtesters from getting frustrated.
I would imagine some future DLC and player maps will help in that regard

Have fun playing Co-Op with this game.
I forsee many, many hours doing co-op with this game. Psych and I managed to get through the first two sections of the co-op campaign last night, and while they didn't seem to be too difficult, thinking about it the scaling in difficulty is nearly perfect. Each one was a little harder than the previous one, and this continued through the sections. That last one was a bit thought provoking.
I am looking forward to them releasing map-making stuff for it, because the things players come up with can be just bat@#(! insane because they don't have to worry about people getting pissed and not buying it.
