I definitely like the LOOK of this page better.SpaceJunk wrote:QUOTE (SpaceJunk @ Feb 15 2011, 05:21 PM) Updated live demo here. Tested only in Firefox 3.6 and Opera 11.01.
Expect no rounded corners in IE8 and lesser.
Other than that I would say -
1) On the right: Change "Comunity" to "Forums".
2) Having the most recent blog posts on the front page is kinda unusual and not really all that great for us because almost nobody uses their blog. Maybe pull the "News" from the "News" section of the forum instead?
3) FOR THE LOVE OF $DEITY, REMOVE THE LINK FOR "Creating a squad".
4) On the bottom, under community, replace the ASGS link with a link to our Mumble instructions. Call it Voicechat or something.
5) Remove the "Mods" section along the bottom. That kind of information is DAUNTING to some new players and can very easily cause helpline problems. (edit -- I do agree that we need a comprehensive place for people to FIND mods, but if they install a bunch right away, they're likely to be unable to get in game at ALL.)
6) PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, OH $DEITY PLEASE REMOVE THE LINK FOR CREATING A SQUAD.
7) There should be a Tech Support link under begin playing on the right that leads directly to THIS POST.
8) There is no download link anywhere. Nor is there an account creation link.
9) I PLEAD WITH, BEG, AND HUMBLY IMPLORE YOU, REMOVE THE CREATING A SQUAD LINK. THINK OF THE CHILDREN FORUMS!
I should add again that I *really* like the way this looks on the whole, it's great work and I hope to see it go live.

I'm fully aware of what you mean and I knew this point would be raised.Bard wrote:QUOTE (Bard @ Feb 16 2011, 06:22 PM) 3) FOR THE LOVE OF $DEITY, REMOVE THE LINK FOR "Creating a squad".
I don't think hiding the information achieves any purpose. The Wiki page has enough warnings about it, and explains why they should start with _TAGS instead of @TAGS. If a stubborn player gets throught that, it will get through the lack of a link at the front page.
Some players already are in squads in other games, though, and one of the things they may ask themselves when they arrive to Allegiance is if they'll ever be able to play together here too.
Plus, voob wannabe squads leaders are the real troblemakers.

The reason it should be hidden is because I don't want people showing up and thinking, right away, that it's EASY to form a squad. People on the internet do not, by and large, read walls of text. If someone has a sizeable squad in *another* game and they can get enough of their people to stick around in this game for the requirements? They'll have ZERO trouble getting up and running here.SpaceJunk wrote:QUOTE (SpaceJunk @ Feb 16 2011, 12:34 PM) I'm fully aware of what you mean and I knew this point would be raised.![]()

The problem is, that's NEVER been the case yet. Even RollingThunder, who existed in another game, only had ONE member come over and start the squad here.
I *really* don't want people getting their hopes up and then being CRUSHED and leaving /simply/ because they couldn't start a squad right away.
That is the major reason I want it down.
The forum spam is secondary (but makes a better joke). If my main problem was forum spam, I'd have been trying to get CookieMonster driven off a long time ago
