Wiki:Targeting reticles
I thought this page had images of all the crosshairs on them. Did they get deleted, or am I just getting confused with a different version of the page (from the academy or kb)?
More to the point, should the images be added?

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
madpeople wrote:QUOTE (madpeople @ Mar 12 2008, 05:55 PM) looks like it should have had images there.
mesial's site has them all with images, and more reticules too.
perhaps just link there instead?
i'm in favour of making mesial's site the official place to get mods
You can only embed external images if the following setting is in LocalSettings.php
Code: Select all
$wgAllowExternalImages = true;If everyone is just going to be downloading them from Mesial's page anyways, though, it may make more sense to link there instead of trying to keep the reticles page updated.

Damnit, it broke again. My fault, the images were in the knowledgebase directory, which was deleted upon my request. The page was never meant to hold ALL reticles, just a good amount of the first ones made.
Remove the pictures and .zip links from the wiki page. Add a link to Mesial's site at the bottom.

Done. Oh, and I vote we put Mesial on the Individuals page. His site is incredibly useful.

imo there should be a more in-depth guide to making reticules. There are 'New-Style' rets on Mesial's site (which I haven't come to understand until now, after a couple of... years) and I am still trying to find out how to make my reticule behave as it does in Star Wars: X-Wing/Star Wars: TIE Fighter (The ret only turns green when your aim is *totally* correct, i.e. when the bullets WILL hit the target, instead of a gentle transition from red to green)
On another subject, this sentence is a little vague to me:
QUOTE The centerinbmp file is used when your target is "in" your line of fire, and the centeroutbmp file is used when your target is "out" of your line of fire.[/quote]
About centeroutbmp.mdl... I wouldn't say that it is only used when the target is "out" of one's line of fire... Recently I found out that the game uses only the Red and Green colour channels in the file and that the red colour when the ret is out of line and the green colour when the ret is in line depends on the value of those channels, so if the ret's green channel is 128, the ret will be dark green when in line... I found this to be relevant with the New-Style Rets.
Also I have spent several hours trying to make sense of what centerinbmp.mdl does but I don't see any difference whether it is a recoloured centeroutbmp.mdl or just a blank (totally black) bitmap... I really want to know what it does.
Further edit: Now making an article for making New Style Rets...
