Yup. Ksero and I looked at the possibility of rejigging the alleg gfx engine, given FS2 code etc. It's a big job, given the source mess/lack of docs. Alas, I don't see that on the horizon.

I remember watching my friend play it in his basement when he was naning a giga bbr that decided it would ram the Garrison.

Then 2-3 weeks later at our second lan party (only 4 man) they made me download and play it

I was a stupid n00b on my first name "TheDarkOne088", but i never had the i have no idea how to play phase as i was coached for my first 2 hrs of play.

I'm still trying to get my friends to play again but they complain about imbal but they just suck.

Well, I wrote other. I'm surprised to see the lack of old schools in here stepping up.. But I guess after the many years of posting the same thing in a different thread every 3 months feels a little hopeless. Anyhow.. I'll post on there behalf.

I received an email from MS Tech on the Zone.com. which was/is MS's small gaming site. Being a Moderator on the local chats I became a Tech Support for premium games, having that perk gave me the advantage of coming across many "beta" activities within MS(as a whole), in this case MS research.

Anyhow.... Having this email I went and registered as a beta 0 (i think) tester and subscribed to the newsgroups. I immediately took a love for it and have been mostly up to date since.

P.S. I vote (other)

That's because he asked for peeps who discovered the game after the source code was released. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

no, he asked for people who joined after ms abandoned alleg / alleg stopped being on zone games. there were a few years between that and the source being released.

Indeed, some people simply forgot about the game. Myself, I forgot about it for 3 years, until I saw the previously mentioned slashdot posting.

That being said, I'd be pretty surprised if the majority of people coming here came from the underdogs. There's an awful lot of ways to hear about a game, and with the allegiance gamer population roughly .0001% of the US, there's probably a couple pretty interesting stories.

The poll itself says:

QUOTE Please, this poll is for players who first found the game after Microsoft dumped and source-released it. This excludes returning vets.[/quote]

Burnin sent me a copy but I didn't bother with it cuz it was pay to play.

Then Weedman got me into it because he said it was now free.

I got bored after a month. (Didn't know the details?)

Started playing again a year later and got addicted.

End of story.

Almost two years ago I was looking for a space sim on the Underdogs, and found Freespace 2 and Allegiance. I ended up downloading just FS2 (it has bigger explosions /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />). It took a few reviews on Gamespot (Best Game No one Played award), AVault, and FiringSquad to convince me to get Allegiance, and even then I got bored of it quickly. @Cadet was too much of a commitment and there seemed to be more reading than playing to do...

But in September this year I decided to give Allegiance a second chance... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
