-INSTRUCTIONS FOR BETA WEDNESDAY:
If you do not already have it installed, you will need to install the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable. You should also make sure you have the latest DirectX 9 Start with an up to date Allegiance install (make sure you can play on the regular servers).
In ASGS select "Allegiance -> Beta Mode".
Still in ASGS, select "Help -> Update / Repair Critical Files".
Click "Login". The updater will run again, downloading the beta client.
After the updater has finished, click "Login" again.
Enjoy the beta! Find or create a new game and test away!
When you are done, there are a couple steps to get back on the regular servers.
Turn off beta mode "Allegiance -> Beta Mode".
Revert to the regular client "Help -> Update / Repair Critical Files"
Play as normal!
I'm still working on the newgamescreen.mdl issue. I have tested out the most recent fix I made and I personally have no trouble moving back and forth between beta and regular using the process listed above. Please let me know if you're still getting artwork errors, and don't forget that important "Update/Repair Critical Files" step every time you switch back and forth.
Thank you all for testing.
Beta Wednesday

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
On trying to connect to the lobby:
Update attempt at: 9/15/10 at 17:46:13 (local time)
After decompression, file D:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\AutoUpdate\FileList.txt_ wasn't the size expected. Perhaps FileList.txt in Lobby server's folder is different than one at FTP Site -OR- Newer file(s) have been added to FTP Site without updating FileList.txt.
Also, allsrv.ini gets downloaded on the repair/update tool in asgs, we probably want that out.

Good that Bard deletes all his news posts so that people can't see his utter lack of progress at anything.

For me it looks like code reviewing is more important than fixing these issues...Bard wrote:QUOTE (Bard @ Sep 15 2010, 09:22 PM) Go read this

You deleted newgamescreen.mdl from autoupdate directory. Filelist.txt still contains it and so Client may fails on downloading it.
Solution:
Fix autoupdate.
Preferred solution:
Disable autoupdate and push all files via ASGS update.
Cause:pkk wrote:QUOTE (pkk @ Aug 31 2010, 06:17 PM) Helpline - Clicking on game setts causes crash (Beta AU overwrites R5 artwork)
Problem between ASGS and Autoupdate, but mainly ASGS (which can't be fixed). ASGS doesn't care if R5 runs with R6 newgamescreen.mdl and vice versa.
Solution:
Remove newgamescreen.mdl from autoupdate (see error above).
Preferred solution:
Fix ASGS. (Impossible, except pook comes back.)
Disable autoupdate and push all files via ASGS update.

(ASGS is unable to update CfgFile registry key)
Allegiance is using outdated CFG file:
http://fazdev.alleg.net/FAZ/FAZR5.cfg
Filelist.txt has wrong checksum.
Imago dropped support on it a few weeks ago.
Solution:
Update that outdated CFG file.
Preferred solution:
ASGS overwrites registry value. (Impossible, except pook comes back.)
Users delete (or modify) 1.1 registry keys and ASGS creates new ones (which points to http://fazdev.alleg.net/FAZ/FAZ.cfg).
Cause:pkk wrote:QUOTE (pkk @ Aug 31 2010, 06:17 PM) Missing effect file
Missing files on Autoupdate or ASGS update.
Solution:
Add file on autoupdate.
Preferred solution:
Disable autoupdate and push all files via ASGS update.

You may already had latest filelist.txt, so AU didn't run...FreeBeer wrote:QUOTE (FreeBeer @ Sep 15 2010, 11:23 PM) Just for the record, the instructions as listed by Bard worked fine for me.
PS:
bard reverted his changes.
