wow are you guys joking or serious?
Do you notice a recurring lag every 5mins from the leaderboard refreshes??
Or was that a joke?!

No, just a theory, since all these VMs should run on the same machine (12xCores, 12 GB RAM, ...).Tigereye wrote:QUOTE (Tigereye @ Aug 30 2010, 08:43 PM) Do you notice a recurring lag every 5mins from the leaderboard refreshes??

ASGS needs tons of CPU power to update stats (I don't think that has changed during the past years) and the data to create the leaderboard isn't stored on RAM only.
AllSrv/TAG also logs on harddisk.
If both VMs access the same harddisk/RAID, that's maybe a reason for bad pings.
But I have no clue how the systems run, that's why it's all speculation.

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
That would be utterly crazy if true.. xD
It was definitely not every 5 minutes though, I didn't notice a discernible pattern, but it happened at least 3 times during the 2 squad games (where everybody on the server just started pinging out for 30-40 seconds)

I'm running a few perfcounters. If PKK is correct it should show as page/delta/faults and queuelength of various disks/memory.
/update: PKK is correct with the extra cpu load when updating stats. however, even with monitoring software on, it never exceeds 20% of the total capacity. PKK is also correct, there is a 12 ms connection swap between Strips virtual network and the real interwebs, but that should not explain a huge lag spike.
I will keep monitoring and check on bandwidth etc.
/update: not enough players to give a full load Stripe test. As far as I can see now, Stripe seems to operate within normal parameters.

Peet:
Would it be possible to montitor DURING a squad game if we could convince players to play a SG on the server? Brood, I agree the problems needs to be identified and once identified, fixed. If it cannot be fixed, then I also agree it is not worth having a crap server.
Let's see if TE, Peet, Freebeer, or Baker can id the problem.

No idea if planet disconnected from the lobby during the squad game, as I was..in the game...
and I never had any lag problems myself, but
for 1-2 minutes the majority of my squad was on mumble saying they had lost any sort of control of their ship for an extended period of time, everyone thought the server was gonna crash or everyone was going to drop, but eventually it fixed itself
but yeah i've been noticing spiking issues on all the servers these days
i get low latency on stripe and planet, high of course on GPZ,
but they all spike whenever they want to and then everybody warps everywhere
maybe the lobby server should be looked at
