That's just your high-rank-centric point-of-view, man!
I posed it as a pretty easy fix to resolve part of the hider problems. It will probably also save some money from lower bandwidth usage and it will stop SolapStripe from lagging! (Thanks, Freeb!)
If you want to improve high-ranked hiders' anonymity then I also propose displaying the same rank for anyone with an 18 or higher rank ( e.g. spideycw(VH), Broodwich(VH), *god(VH) ). This would increase the pool of people you would need to guess from. This would only display in game, so you still get credit if you care about your rank.
I am not sure how hard this would be to code. I suspect not very.
EDIT: Also, if you look at it in terms of "anonymity gained per admin action" my first proposal is far more economical!
EDIT:EDIT: You would also need to find a way to have it change how the total team rank is displayed and how AB worked which would probably complicate the whole thing enough to make this totally unfeasible.
EDIT:EDIT:EDIT: Displaying the team's total AllegScore as TeamAS+n(VH), where n is the number of high-rankers, might be an acceptable work-around to obfuscating the team AS and $#@!ing with AB. If you were extremely dedicated and kind of lucky you could find out what the (VH) was covering, but I think it would increase the lifetime of most high-ranked hiders.
