After reading the excellent post of Moto I had a closer look at the Allegianc homepage.
Right now there are two (three) links a new player should follow to gain access to Allegiance. The first is "Create an Account", the second is "Download the Game", and the last is optional, "Flight School". A new player does not know which one to follow first, or what the correct order should be. This may discourage people.
I would suggest to make this one link "Sign up for Allegiance" or something. This should lead to a subpage (or a series of pages) explaining all steps necessary and guiding the new player through the process. The creation of a forum account could also be integrated here.
Instead of Flight School I would then link to the Wiki on the main page, and instead link to Flight School during the signing process.

I thought Moto said that the home page was actually really good, clear, and simple, and was what got them to download the game?
I really think the page is good as it is. That entire page is meant for brand new players, primarily, so putting all the needed links like "sign up" or "download" there makes more sense to me than creating an entire other page. It just seems like adding an unnecessary layer to something that's pretty simple as it is.
The "Flight School" button goes to an excellent page with a bunch of links on it, the first of which is the good, and very clear and brief Crash Course. The only thing I'd change maybe, is put a link to the Wiki home page there as well. Otherwise I don't think any changes are needed... IMHO.

I was debating adding a wiki link, but every link on page one, links to articles on the wiki, I kinda thoguht it was overkill.girlyboy wrote:QUOTE (girlyboy @ Aug 4 2010, 03:22 AM) I thought Moto said that the home page was actually really good, clear, and simple, and was what got them to download the game?![]()

When i click "VIDEO AND SCREENSHOTS" i am presented only with screenshots. Once again FAO has left me feeling cheated.

I'm a lazy user, when I look at a new free game I watch the video on the site to see if it is interesting. Don't make me have to dig about for the promotional video (esp since the videos and images section contains no videos).
Youtube videos cost very little interms of download / page load if you don't click play / they don't auto play - the user only has to dl the video if they choose to.

The first thing a person is going to want to do when they come onto the page is see what the game is like before they even start looking at anything else.
