Join us WEDNESDAY 21 July 2010 to test the R6 client!

It's that time again! On Wednesday, July 21st 2010 we will be holding another regularly scheduled R6 test.

We need people to sign into the beta server and make sure that they can play.

For those of you that weren't able to sign in last week, the Development team have been EXTREMELY busy cranking out bugfixes over the last few months and in order to have R6 ready for release, it would really be helpful to have you all test out make sure that everything is at or better than normal and the bugfixes are working as expected. Please read this post and so you know what to test and report all bugs on the Trac server.

NEW FEATURES STILL NEED TESTING
(These will need approval before they can go into R6 as they are gamplay changes)
Enhance the load out screen by caching your load outs to disk - use number keys and CTRL + number (0-9) (Default Loadouts)The #bootiny (Thread here)The inability to see currently mined rocks on the minimap or sector status levels unless you have eye on the rocks being mined Related and previously known issues: fixed, and known A Friendly Fire change regarding Probes

INSTRUCTIONS FOR BETA WEDNESDAY!
If you do not already have it installed, you will need to install the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable. Regular Allegiance already requires the VC2008 redist and Windows Update should already replaced VS2008 with VS2008 SP1 redist. You should also make sure you have the latest DirectX 9 Start with an up to date Allegiance install (make sure you can play on the regular servers).
In ASGS select "Allegiance -> Beta Mode".
Still in ASGS, select "Help -> Update / Repair Critical Files".
Click "Login". The updater will run again, downloading the beta client.
After the updater has finished, click "Login" again.
Enjoy the beta! Find or create a new game and test away!
When you are done, there are a couple steps to get back on the regular servers.
Turn off beta mode "Allegiance -> Beta Mode".
Revert to the regular client "Help -> Update / Repair Critical Files"
Play as normal!

Don't forget to submit your bugs! and feel free to check out the list of recently closed tickets on trac.

For those interested, there is a list of tickets closed for R5.1 and R6 automatically generated by trac. Not all changes are in trac tickets:

Beta AU will replace newgamescreen.mdl with a version which is blocked by ASGS.

ASGS is unable to download newgamescreen.mdl and you end up that your local file needs to be updated again and again.

Workaround was moving the newgamescreen.mdl from regular artwork to beta artwork. (Otherwise there are downloads below.)

ASGS conform (also allowed on regular Allegiance):

Beta AU:

I just tried to log on to the beta server. It auto updated fine, but now it won't open anymore telling me it can't find file d3dx9_43.dll
Isn't that the DirectX9 error message? But I have DX9, and in fact I can log on the regular server just fine.

Thank you, that worked.
Didn't see Bard's post about the need to reinstall DX9 and was afraid to screw up my perfectly working copy of Allegiance

It's not reinstalling, it's updating DirectX 9 to June 2010 release. To bad those DirectX updates aren't on Windows Update. :glare:
