That other great post is the one with the Korean war in it.

You mean this one ....

First, understand I am a Marine Corps veteran. I enlisted in the Marine Corps in the early 80s because I wanted to be one of the best, pure and simple. I seldom actually am the best at anything, but always, perfection remains the goal. I care deeply about everything that happens in a game. I care for every teammate, always trying to think of you first and me last. I want people to know I will always be there for them, always sacrificing myself if necessary. When it really boils down to it, it's why I left XenoTech for Black Shadow. Truly, Black Shadow is the best, always has been, and always will be. Black Shadow represents the best of Allegiance.

Being the best doesn't mean winning every battle. The Marines have taken horrific losses in the past, but even when they faced 10-1 odds, as they did in the dead of winter in Korea, surrounded by ice and Chinese, they fought their way to the sea, rescued the Army on the way, and overcame. When asked why they retreated, the Marine commander replied, "Retreat hell, we were just fighting in the other direction."

That's me in Allegiance, and in life, really. I think I play the way I live my life. So, my main personal objective is always to look out for the guy next to me first. It helps immensely to learn how to communicate in the game efficiently. It really may be one of the most difficult things to learn in game ... at least for me. The chat rolls fast; there always seems to be conflicts happening at the same time. Confusion. It's easy to do.
So while trying to stay on top of that, I am always out to drop, stop and roll. That is, drop probes, hunt miners and blow up bases. Picking which to do when isn't really hard, as long as you have learned to communicate.

While flying, I spend a lot of time hovering over the mini map, reading the sector statuses, cycling radar, checking F5, F6, F3. Knowing what com is building and researching next helps me prepare for the next assignment. Knowing the roster statuses helps me understand that maybe I should be picking up pods, hunting miners, or staying closer to base to defend. Watching command view helps me find tech and enemy probes that will expose our miners and cons.

What's the source for this quote btw? I like it!

Never even know you were in XT myself. Learn something new every day
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.

The quote was from Major General Oliver P. Smith in December 1950.

What do you think of Amos being made CMC? WTF is that. Mattis would have been 10x better.

You can keep your Army Khaki,
You can keep your Navy Blue.
I have the worlds best fighting man,
To introduce to you.

His Uniform is different,
The best you've ever seen.
The Germans call him "Devil Dog,"
His real name is "Marine."

He was born on Parris Island,
The place where God Forgot.
The sand is eighteen inches deep,
The sun is blazing hot.

He gets up every morning,
Before the rising sun.
He'll run a hundred miles and more,
Before the day is done.

He's deadly with a rifle,
A bayonet made of steel.
He took the warrior's calling card,
He's mastered how to kill.

And when he gets to Heaven
St. Peter he will tell,
One more Marine reporting sir,
I've served my time in Hell.

So listen all you young girls,
To what I have to say:
Go find yourself a young Marine,
To love you every day.

He'll hug you and he'll kiss you,
And treat you like a queen.
There is no better fighting man:
THE UNITED STATES MARINE!

Here Javas, I think you'd appreciate this. This has been on the wall of my recruiter's office for about a year now:

WHAT IS A MARINE?

The USMC is over 228 years of romping, stomping hell. Death and destruction. The finest fighting machine the world has ever seen. We were born in a bomb crater, our mother was an M-1 and our father a K-bar. Each moment that I live is an additional threat on your life.

I am a rough looking, roving soldier of the sea. I am cocky, self-centered, overbearing, and I do not know the meaning of fear, for I am fear itself. I am a green, amphibious monster made of blood and guts who arose from the sea, feasting on anti-Americans throughout the globe. Whenever it may arise, and when my time comes, I will die a glorious death - at great expense to my enemies - on the battlefield giving my life for mom, the Corps, and the American flag.

We stole the eagle from the Air Force, the anchor from the Navy, and the rope from the Army. On the 7th day, while God rested, we over ran His perimeter and stole the globe.

We live like soldier, talk like sailors and slap the hell out of both. Warrior by day, and lover by night - and being created in an image where the ability and willingness to wreak utter havoc and destruction is not considered a character flaw -

Marine By GOD!

What was your MOS?

I'm technically going in as 0321 Reconnaissance, but after 2 years or initial signing I'm heading to Air Wing 6531 Ordinance. IF I can make 8541 (I guess it's 0317 now), then that for as long as I live or until I get out.
