the fix for this was standard years and years ago. they took stuff out in the way of JS support, and now
those with complicated gear suffer. all i know is autoupdates come and go, and no one gives two @#(!ts about fire,
or anyone else with this apparent issue. my js stopped working, or at least i thought it had, so the wife bought me another.
imagine my surprise to see its the same old same old.
x52 and x52 pro saitek joysticks do not work in r5.

The problem is the drivers for these models.firestorm wrote:QUOTE (firestorm @ Jun 7 2010, 11:42 PM) and now those with complicated gear suffer.
There are other games that have problems with saitek drivers as well.
I on the other hand have one of these:
....and despite the fact that it has:
3 axes and 24 buttons
– X, Y, and Z axes for Aileron, Elevator, and Throttle control
– 3 traditional push buttons
– 1 mode switch button
– 3 four direction HAT switches
– 1 eight direction POV HAT switch
• Total of 176 programmable functions
I have absolutely no trouble at all.
It works natively in windows with no driver or software installation necessary and I've never had ANY problems with ANY game that allows joysticks.
Don't blame the allegiance development team for something that's Saitek's fault.

Absolutely $#@!ing not.fuzzylunkin1 wrote:QUOTE (fuzzylunkin1 @ Jun 8 2010, 12:07 PM) Imago for Dev ZL.
I love Imago and he's a talented coder, but HE WOULD BE A WASTED RESOURCE AS A PROJECT LEADER.
Let me say that again in case you missed it: IMAGO IS ONE OF OUR FEW TALENTED CODERS AND SHOULD BE SPENDING HIS TIME CODING, NOT MANAGING OR LEADING.
Imago is a prima donna and he's turning you into one over time. Prima donnas are NOT LEADERS, they're glory hounds. They do what they do for the love of success, progress, and recognition. (Note that this is not a BAD thing. Prima donnas are more productive than seat warmers)
A leader should be able to UNIFY the glory hounds, organize their efforts to produce a test build and assemble output into a cohesive whole. Imago could probably do everything there except organize the glory hounds. He's too confrontational and too much in love with "my way or the highway" for that. (He's a programmer, he has to focus, as such his behavior is fairly well understood.)
Since that's only about 1/10 of the Dev ZL's job, how much time do you think Imago's going to want to spend coordinating the community effort for beta testing when neither you nor he even likes posting on the forums? That's about another 1/10 of the job.
The rest of it (That's 8/10 of the job or so, if we want an active, functioning dev team working towards a common goalset) involves PR, Bureaucracy, locating more development resources (QA people and coders), enhancing those resources (hand-holding and training QA and new coders), working as an intermediary between the ZL team and the needs of the Dev Zone (that's hand-holding TWO sides, because not all ZL's understand the allegiance code, and not all C++ coders understand Allegiance politics), and generally doing the sort of thing that the guys who wear pink button-down shirts in offices, also called MIDDLE MANAGERS, are required to do, packaged with a heaping helping of super-politeness.
Being Dev ZL means significantly less time to code and a WHOLE LOT OF TIME HERDING CATS if we want to get back to the R1/R2-era levels of development activity. (You know, that "reasonable release schedule" everyone here would love to see again)
I'd rather have Imago coding, personally.
(edit -- perfect case in point: The Dev ZL needs to fully understand this and this. That is - both sides of the programmer/manager relationship as viewed from either side. )

It's not a matter of interest on my part, it's a matter of not stepping up for a job that I may not be wanted for. I was approached once before about a ZL position to take over for Ozzy and I went for it. The more qualified person (Raveen) got the job. If I'm wanted again, the ZL's know where my pm box is.fuzzylunkin1 wrote:QUOTE (fuzzylunkin1 @ Jun 8 2010, 06:57 PM) Bard, It would be better than nothing, which is what we are currently at. Seems to me he's the only person who would be willing.
Until you can show me someone better who will actually accept it, what you say really doesn't do much. I would love to have YOU has ZL, but YOU don't seem interested.

I doubt I would even be considered. I'd certainly have to curtail 100% of my attack-ish posting in various forums (*cough* rants/OT *cough*) and be on my best behavior at all times so I don't get any "Hi, " pm's from TB, but it's kind of a moot point until someone asks.
