EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

So having reviewed the forum and done a search on topics with the error message cited in the title I'm coming up blank.
Alleg seems to work fine when running in windowed mode, except that I'm flying by mouse so I can't use windowed mode 'cos of the lack of a virtual joystick.
I've reinstalled Alleg, including a re-download of the installer in case I'd somehow gotten a corrupt one. I've installed it with and without decompressing the .ogg files in case the media glitch was one of those. I've reinstalled net 2.0 as well. Updated ASGS before connecting for the first time as it seems some files in the downloaded installer are out of date.

I'm running on a dual core 2.4 with an Nvidia 8800GTX and Soundblaster XiFi. Desktop res is 1440x900x32, Alleg res is 800x600x32. Nothing fancy going on that I know of.

So... what have I missed?

Have you tried Running alleg. in "Safe Mode" and messing with the different graphcs settings?

If that fails - can you fing the ".log" files in the Allegiance directory please and post the contents up here?

(directinput.log and some other files with a similar extension)

Ok, I've dicked around with safemode a bit, no joy yet. Incidentally, if I take too long choosing the graphics settings, ASGS bleats about taking too long to start the game and aborts. Might be worth looking into that little glitch. So here's some logfiles.

sorry i cant add any definitive solution but i can refer to you to a thread i found when i had this problem... i searched "window wont grow" and it gave me this thread maybe reading it will give you some more insight/other things to try.

Wyld, have you tried the Beta version? Getting it installed is a pain in the ass, but I know there were a number of video issues from R5 that are purportedly fixed in the Beta version. I know that its the "worst possible" solution, since it means that your problem is solved and you still can't play on the main server. Nevertheless, it might be worth a shot.

It shouldn't be a PITA if you have the latest installer of course.

You should be able to switch on the beta switch in ASGS. Then repair/update critical files.

The beta should (in theory) run easily then.

Other things to try.

Mess with your machines Graphics settings (i.e. Resolution, refresh rate). To see if that has any effect (not sure if it will - the code seems to use variables representing these sizes quite often though).

If that or the beta doesn't work, we'll take this over to the Dev. forum, and I'll try and create a build for you which logs all the key events in a fullscreen operation so we can trace where it crashes and hopefully fix it.

Just tried the beta, can't connect to the beta lobby. Is there a particular time the beta servers come online on wednesdays?

Dunno. Thought they were always running. Check with Saisoma.

You could just try the training missions and see if you can go full screen in there......
