Hey everyone,

On June 26-27th, the G20 summit is being hosted in Toronto Ontario. The world's governments have chosen the Metro Toronto Convention Centre as their venue, which just so happens to be next door to our datacentre. As a result, both our ASGS server and our forum server will be within the "Security Perimeter" as soon as June 7th.

I don't foresee any issues with this because the datacentre is already one of the most secure buildings in all of Toronto. (Man-traps at the door, fingerprint scanners, access cards, restricted elevators, mandatory bag searches, etc.) I doubt even a single protester will end up in the lobby let alone in our server room. Even if protesters tried to do damage to something, they'd be met with hundreds/thousands of riot-geared cops shooting rubber bullets, sound cannons, and using other uncomfortable-sounding methods to stop them cold.

That said, the building is the central hub for most of Southern Ontario's telecom making it an attractive target for would-be anarchists. A few well-aimed attacks could potentially knock Internet connectivity out for the building, taking our fun little game offline in the process. If problems occur during the summit, it will be very difficult for me to get to the building...and that's even if I *WANTED* to brave all the potential riots and other stupidity that comes along with protestors.

My office has declared a closure during the event, as have many *MANY* offices and entire buildings in the downtown core.

In case people want to read up on some of the craziness expected here in T-dot, the following links may be interesting to you:

When you mention Man-traps, the first thing that comes to mind is a false floor that leads to a pit of spikes.

Leave the town if you can TE. Trust me, those things are not fun, when you just want to live your regular life and not throw a couple bricks at local McDonalds :/
Damn, there should be an angry mob of local citizens waiting for the angry mob of "anarchists", "antiglobalists" and other wannabes. And the local mob should be angrier. Think enraged rabid bisons angry. Yeah. Either leave town or start gathering your local angry mob. You can make a sign. Big one, with only 4 letters on it: "GTFO". So that the more braindead of the protesters, who don't manage to get a clue from your rusty pitchforks and flamethrowers have the chance to learn your intentios from it. Yeah. Hell, you might even unravel your true destiny as antirevolutionary leader! Yeah. God, I need sleep.

I live on campus just outside Qween's Park, which is the "designated protest area". Fun stuff. The university has decided to kick us all out of the residence and stick us in double rooms at a diff residence farther south.

Also my office where I work is JUUUUST north of the protected area and we're gonna have business as usual. I think the fence + security will be 1 block south from my street. I can imagine the pile of angry people packed outside the fence... think I will "work from home" for a few days lol

Lol you can work for me Terran. I'll pay you 10.50/hr (a quarter above min wage!) to get me ice water every 20 minutes in this 30+ degree weather we've been having :(
