Hi all,

I tried this morning to play on the GPZ server. I though you saw me, Ayperos.
Many time I was disconnected, each time it indicated no ping return. :o
Boring, each time it consider me as destroyed.
I tried to create my own game to test, but same thing "no ping return", game creation stopped and since this moment, unable to connect to GPZ server and to delete the game I create nor to join a created game, each time it indicate me "unable to connect server"
All servers appears on my screen, with the number of players and all information, but each time, same thing "unable to connect server".

I use Windows XP SP3, maybe my AV: free Avira ? It's on full protect.
Or maybe the ping ? I live in Tahiti, in south pacific, we have a bad internet connection, maybe that ?

An other question, I just download the AllsrvSetupR5.exe to install a server there. To create a sometime server to play with friends here if our ping is too big to connect on normal servers. This server will update automaticaly all players information on the other servers or not ? An how to install on it all cores we have in the client ?

Can you please finish filling out the template found in the Read Me.

Try making a game in the Solap and Planet servers and see if they work.

Next, use ogor's advice
ogorass wrote:QUOTE (ogorass @ May 25 2010, 06:29 AM) Could you please do a tracert to"planet.dras.us" and "server.german-borg.de" and post the results here?

Instructions on how to tracert stuff:
1. Press Windows Key+R -> a white box will pop up
2. Type "cmd" into the white box (without the parenthesis), press Enter -> a black box will appear
3. Type "tracert planet.dras.us" (again, without parenthesis) into the black box, press Enter and wait for the command to complete
3. Type "tracert server.german-borg.de" (yet again, without parenthesis) into the black box, press Enter and wait for the command to complete
4. Right click on the black box, choose "Select all" from the pop-up menu -> this will place the contents of the black box in your clipboard
5. Create a new post in this thread and paste the stuff into it.
And, I don't think, you need a server to play locally. You just need to open allegiance not ASGS, normally in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance and hit LAN games.

Finally, make sure Internet Explorer doesn't have Work Offline checked, yes even if you don't use it.

Yeah, ping timeouts usually indicate bad connection or a broken nodes between you and the server.

No, the LAN game you create is just that - a LAN game. This means it will only be visible in the local network the server is running in.
The servers you see in the lobby (Planet, Solap and GPZ) are all public servers.

Yeah, do the above.

Server is needed to play any multiplayer game, be it over the Internet (like the ones in the lobby) or LAN.
QUOTE Finally, make sure Internet Explorer doesn't have Work Offline checked, yes even if you don't use it.
Don't bother doing that. If IE was in offline mode, you wouldn't be able to get into lobby.

Well, no wonder you get ping timeouts and trouble connecting to servers... Those ping values are off the scale :(

QUOTE About my ask about make a server there, it's to made a public server for all from my country, like you saw, the ping is very high and is imposible to have a good game connected to server of other countries.
Hosting a public server requires quite a lot of money and time to be put into it. Make sure you know what you are up to before making declarations like this.

The procedure for the new server to be accessible from the main lobby requires that Tigereye adds the server's IP to the lobby. This has to be trusted and will be thoroughly checked before being added.
I strongly suggest you contact him before taking any actions in this direction.

Other people you might want to ask about ins and outs of running a public server are: MrChaos (owner of the Solap server), aarmstrong (owner of the Planet server), Zapper, Grimmwolf, pkk (owners of the GPZ server).

Sending them a personal message (PM) with some questions would be a good idea (you need at least 10 posts to be able to send PMs though - this is to ward off spam bots). Some of the above mentioned people can also be reached via IRC. They hang out on these channels usually: #freeallegiance, #rollingthunder. We are using the quakenet.org IRC servers.
If you'd like to discuss this more, feel free to hop on IRC and ask around. Lotsa friendly people there, you can also find me there.
QUOTE After, how to know if IE is in offline mode, truely, I don't know.
As I said before, don't mind that, as your IE is not in offline mode ;) For future reference though: the option is found in the pull-down menu (the one that is shown when you press left Alt key) under File->Work offline (sorry, no idea what would that be in French...). It's in the first menu group from the left, bottommost option.

Ok, problem solved.

I disconnected AV AVIRA and since that I have all access to all server and never more disconnected.
I did my first battle yesterday evening. 29 points, 2 kills, 5 death (yep, I discovered the surprise-mine-fields out of nods... :o :D ).
So good game, no help to targed as have all other games, all to hit are from the pilot skill, I like it :iluv: . A little of real strategy and fighter pilot skill and after the first encounter each time the enemies teleported or escaped before I arrived in weapon range  , even at 1 against 3 :glare: .
I just have to parameter now my keyboard: to use a French keyboard with US parameters it's a real bull@#(!. I have to find how to select and change cargo, weapons, change speed normaly,.. :P .

So, the problem was only the AV (I hope). I know nowthat all others from my country will can connect without problem of ping.
There we had to build our owns Operation Flashpoint (the first) and Line Age II otherwise it was impossible to us to play correctly.
Reason of my ask to how to build a public server there. Now, not necessary.

I have a question.

All this game is in English, I can translate all text in French, the only one thing difficult will be to change in text the designated keyboard's keys, but I can.
How to access all the text to modify ?
An other way that a programmer send me on a .doc file per example all text of the game in English and I'll translate it.
It will be a good thing to open the game to French talkers.

;)

Glad to hear that you got it solved!

With regards to the in-game text, most of that is hard-coded in the software and graphics as far as I know. So to actually change it, you'd have to recompile the software after making all those changes (which aren't easy). Once you have a recompiled client, it will no longer work with our servers. Sorry, but that's a security feature of our game - it prevents people from cheating or hacking.

We're certainly not opposed to have francophones playing our game - we have several right now. We also have a gathering of people from different languages as well. However I think you'll find that the functional language of the game is English and communication is very much a part of the game play experience. I would think you're better off learning the few English terms we use. That approach seems to work well for everyone.

With regards to learning the game, we have a wiki covering a lot of the game concepts. We also have training courses to help new folks learn to play the game. I also strongly suggest that you (and your friends) get Teamspeak 2 (not 3) and join us on our channel. This is the fastest/easiest way to ask questions about the game. You could even set up your own sub-channel and invite some of our francophone players to join you to help translate the game concepts. I'd help if I could, but my french is very rusty.

Odd... There were no reported issues with this AV before. Meh, if it worked, it's all good :)

As much as this proposal is appreciated, there is very little point to doing this. This game is massively reliant on in-game chat and Teamspeak communication, which are all carried in English. That means, that players who don't speak English, either have to learn really quickly ( ;) ) or don't get to have much fun...
If you are set on doing this though, I suggest you ask around in the In-game Development forums (can be found in the Development Zone of those boards).

Yea,Avira's firewall has been really crappy lately. I had to dump Avira a few weeks ago and switch to AVG because of it.

My will is not to let a door for hack Freebeer, it's why I suggest a way that will be to give me a .doc or .txt or other file with the text to translate.
About communication, the how is writed the text of the player on its screen have no involvement of the how the player will interact with on vocal or writed chat.

For example: I select my target and sent my message: on my screen, French translated "Attaquer ma cible", on your own screen: "Attack my target". It's the same.
It's only a confort for the player.
An other example: you select "I need help!" and it write on my screen "J'ai besoin d'aide!".
Like I said, in how is the to-read on screen language have no implication in the chat communication language.
Exactly as if French players use the actual game in English and chat and talk in French only: the writed text language have no impact on the players to players communication language.

There, we had Line Age 2, all in English, we translated it, and after compile the client will be functionnal with English version without problem.

I will take a look at the In-game Development forums (I don't know where they are but I will find them :P )
