I propose that giga spec mines should be tied to the sy flag.
On small games giga is hard to galv, so this is a real problem for the small games on US late night and EU eary afternoon if someone goes giga.
Pro:
It will not affect most of the games because sy is turned on.
It will make giga weaker on small games where it is very strong.
Con: none that i am aware of.
What do you think?
giga specs
The way I see this is you are trying to make Allegiance Factions balanced for SMALL games as opposed to the sweet spot.
TBH there are lots of things more overpowered in small games than Spec Refs and I just don't see this being a change that is worth making. I'm willing to hear everyone out though

I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
On one hand, "SY off" is already a used as a catchall flag for small-game balance tweaks
On the other hand, specmines are basically the least annoying thing about small game Giga, and taking them away might actually make small-game Giga STRONGER by removing that gigantic-yet-attractive money sink and forcing the Giga comms to actually run effective economies

The only things currently affected by allow shipyard are shipyard itself and Enh carrier drones.

lol how will taking away an extra source of income strengthen a faction? I agree that small game specs are retarded, but there is a sizable gap in game size between when sy should be off and when specs should be off. If we could get another button then i would say hell yes, but im kinda on the fence with tying it to sy

If your team is too small (or too incompetent) to kill a spec ref, how are you going to kill any other light Giga base? The reason Giga is awesome in small games is because a commander can spend 2k to push a con every 2 minutes and your team is too small to stop it. In the couple of minutes it takes to dis2 a base with 5-10 people I can just build another con. Or if you do try to stop it, in the time you take killing it the other team kills your miners while mining freely. I would be happy to show you how amazing Giga is in small games even without spec refs. But this is common sense. Everyone knows small game Giga is good and its not just because of spec refs.
There are also a million other things that are overpowered in small games (Rix SRs, TF scouts, Bios gunships, etc.) and this gets back to the age old argument of scalability and making one core for small games and one for large games. Nobody really wants to go through the effort to make a second core for small games and tying certain things to sy is just an another attempt to do that.

i doubt anybody would go through the effort of switching servers specifically to change cores when a certain number of people are or aren't in a game. if cores could be switched in the lobby, sure why not, but it's too much of a hassle._SRM_Nuke wrote:QUOTE (_SRM_Nuke @ May 20 2010, 10:36 PM) Nobody really wants to go through the effort to make a second core for small games and tying certain things to sy is just an another attempt to do that.

It would be an improvement with an effort less than two minutes.spideycw wrote:QUOTE (spideycw @ May 21 2010, 03:04 AM) The way I see this is you are trying to make Allegiance Factions balanced for SMALL games as opposed to the sweet spot.

I fully agree that there are a lot other problems in small games. This is one of the worst. Changing it will be a big improvement without the risk of negative effects on balance for SY-on games.
If you think that using SY on/off can be used as a toggle for small games please change it.
