I couldn't access either the server OR the remote KVMconsole. Datacentre told me everything was fine on their end - maybe my server had a hardware failure.
Me: "Then why isn't my rKVM up?"
Them: "Uhm, not sure. Maybe that died too. Maybe it's our switch?"
Me: "Then it'd take down everything on that switch. I can reach all the other servers on that switch."
Them: "Maybe it was one switch port?"
Me: "At least two switchports would be dead then. Can't you tell if your equipment is down? I can tell mine is down..."
Them: "Well, all I know is you're the only one who's called in with a problem tonight. I'm pretty sure whatever the problem is, you're the only one affected."
I'm here now and the server was powered off. So was my remote KVM.
Seems like it was the PDU (Power Distribution Unit).
aka: "fancy powerbar"
I called and told him, and all he could say was "Oh. Yeah that sounds about right."
*facepalm*
Thankfully these things happen rarely.
I'm just miffed that *I* had to tell the datacentre that *their* equipment was down.
...I guess the other 5 servers on this PDU aren't used as heavily as mine, so their admins didn't notice/care
