Many of the sidewinder gameport joysticks (3d pro, Precision Pro, Force Feedback Pro) lose functionality when utilizing the db15 to USB dongle. The converter I linked to, allow full functionality of the stick and simultaneous button push (more than one button pushed at same time).

If your joystick is analog only, then use the dongle. If your FSB is too fast, you'll lose your gameport and be forced to go USB.

For issues with your joystick, talk to your doctor, perhaps he'll prescribe a pill.
