I've recently upgraded my home internet connection and I'm thinking about hosting a 4th Allegiance Server. Before I do that though I'd like an estimate on badwidth use from those who currently run them please. I'd like to do this without impacting the 15 sites I'm presently hosting.

you can't host from home

a) The requirement is TE's ( 1000% agree btw)
b) you dont have enough capacity BOTH directions
c) your service provider will send someone out to kick your ass if you actually used your bandwidth limits

It takes some money, WAY more time then you can imagine, clue, and being a $#@!ing moron to host an Allegiance sever ;) I noes cause that what got me to host one

Bandwidth usage since August
Jan 2010
18.50 GB In
34.21 GB Out
52.71 GB Total

Dec 2009
24.38 GB
46.76 GB
71.14 GB

Nov 2009
35.66 GB
65.94 GB
101.60 GB

Oct 2009
28.38 GB
48.41 GB
76.79 GB

Sep 2009
34.93 GB
61.31 GB
96.25 GB

Aug 2009
42.02 GB
74.63 GB
116.65 GB

I don't even try to compete with pkk on style points ;)

edit: its obviously the connections and not the bandwidth or even the hardware. Your home connection is absolutely going to be slower then even a for @#(! data center (it comes down to money and traffic rights)

edit2: My monthly allotment is 4000G Total fyi

I have dual OC-48's but ok, if you say that's not enough ... What the HELL is TE speeds? 38 years of computing and I've never heard of that one :(

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the TE to whom MrChaos refers is not an ISP speed, but our illustirious and fuzzy admin, (and your squadmate) of whom I perform a myriad of services for. Including his introductions.

Good to see you active again BTW.

Thanks! I'm just beyond happy that Alleg (ASGS really) finally runs with later versions of the framework so I CAN be active again. I've missed this game very much!
