Problem with connectivity
Have you enabled Allegiance to run in Compatibility Mode with Windows 2003?
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
Have you seen this page? Spidey's suggestion about running it in 2003 Compatibility Mode (also covered in that link) is the usual remedy.
Sorry to butt in.
Are you sure you don't have the Firewall Component of Avast installed? I seem to recall there were issues with a combination of Avast Firewall / Vista and Alleg.
An easy way to check would be to uninstall avast and attempt to connect. If you can connect to game, you know it's avast that is the problem.

To notJarvis' point
I had to install Avast because the computer caught a virus via using an open wireless connection at McD's. I forgot to uninstall it and could get to the game lobby but couldn't log ingame.
I have Vista Home Premium installed fwiw. The answer was, of course, to uninstall Vista... just kidding Avast
