Latest Front Page
I think somewhere along the lines someone forgot about integrating the new layout into the CMS and forum used for the site. It would be nice if a complementing layout could be designed so everything flows properly. I would also look into designing a layout so the wiki flows with the main site as well.
The CMS system FAO uses currently is very vanilla. It looks like every other basic CMS layout out there. It would be great if we could include a personal touch to it.

No matter what page we end up with on the front, one thing is clear: people will always see flaws.
We can't please everyone... so it's going to come down to a question of who gets pleased?
I thought maybe a vote would be a good way to solve this, but designs keep changing/improving and new designs keep popping up. This creates even more rivalry and more refinements.
It's a "damned-if-you-do/damned-if-you-don't" situation, and I'm the guy who uploads the html. I'm blamed either way
So unless someone has a better way of choosing the new page, I'm going to sort of "do it live" and watch for the least amount of backlash
I don't want to change the page every day with every refinement, but I don't want it to sit in a highly-contentious stage or feel "dated." I'll update it tomorrow and we'll go from there. Once it seems that there are relatively few folks pissed off then it'll sit untouched for a while

The Allegiance community currently hates their sysadmin because he is doing: [Too Much] [____________|] [Too Little]
Current reason: Removing the PayPal contribute page. Send Bitcoin instead: 1EccFi98tR5S9BYLuB61sFfxKqqgSKK8Yz. This scale updates regularly.
I think that's a good idea TE. I would imagine that changing the front page every so often is a good idea -- it would let people know that the game is being updated and cared for.
I still think Dorjan's concept is the best, but I'm biased =)

At least we need a page, which does work with IE.

The Escapist (Justin Emerson) @ Dec 21 2010, 02:33 PM:
The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
The main problem is that you have put up an unedited, untested concept page up regardless of anyone's opinion of the design itself. In doing so it will not only not help anything, but in fact will hurt our quest to get new players. Putting a page up even for a day with major spelling errors and that doesn't display correctly on many browsers could turn away potential players.
I personally don't care for the current version of it, but the majority tend to like it. If this concept was refined and we had a more finished, well edited version of it up then it wouldn't be a big deal (except for the fact it is way too similar to Eve's design, but that doesn't seem to bother most people or maybe they haven't seen Eve's page).

The current page's biggest flaw is the text. It's written poorly and unprofessionaly. If you guys are gonna put up new pages, take the time to really work on the text. The visuals on all these pages is great, but the text portions need a lot of work.
