man, that's sweet too spacej. one thing i REALLY like better about the other page are the "faction pics w/text" and the rix fig. those two features just look killer and I think (personally) that we need SOME text on the front page that describes the game, at least somewhat. I actually like the text on the current www.freeallegiance.org under the faction pics myself . .I think it's well written and concisely conveys the "feeling" of alleg without being wordy. extremely well done imo. i also prefer no screen shots (video is cool) for the front page. Those are relegated to their own location as linked and I like that. The faction pics look more polished and professional. It's like, going to a game's front page you don't typically see lots of screenshots. those have their own home. You have "representational artwork" which is what i see the faction pics as and the AEM video is just art in itself as well.

the blue nebulae is cooler looking, and i think i like the categories (the look of them) better in the new one too (thanks for adding news . you rock!). That's some sharp stuff.

I think the look and feel of the current page with the red background is better than this version. However, either option is better than anything else that's been presented so far, in my personal opinion I think.

I like that the blue theme matches the forums better than the red. However I don't see anything particularly Allegiancy about the image itself.

Other than "Allegiance" being repeated in the top logo and the video, and the Allegiance screenshots

If you take all that away from any of the designs, none of them are particularly "Allegiancy".

I meant the background image, not the screenshots. And all the backgrounds with Allegiance ships are more Allegiancy.

You could stick a miner on that asteroid in the upper-right-hand-corner, and some stealth fighters coming at it from the upper or lower left.

The trailer story ends with the Earth being blasted by an asteroid, which is what sets off the whole thing with the humanity breaking apart and all that stuff.

Personally I think this looks a lot better than what we have now...from what I can tell with such a small image and assuming it isn't copying the design of another site. I'm not sure the blue earth would look good if I saw actual size. I don't think it even needs the planet. I'd rather see the rix ship in the background moved up higher so it isn't hidden behind anything or alternatively put another ship up there next to the logo. I would also try to make stars more visible on your background image so it looks more like space. The Allegiance logo looks kind of bad on top of that color though. I would see if you can make the logo stand out a bit more. Add Shadow or tweak the colors a little bit. If the planet is gone the logo might look better though anyway.

speaking as someone who used to do web design professionally, I think the new front page is very nice and well done from a design perspective. I do think it probably best for the video not to start automagically but meh.
