raumvogel wrote:QUOTE (raumvogel @ Feb 18 2010, 04:10 AM) Anything with a video intro on it is better than the old one.The old page looks like any other BS 2d scroller with a story to it.
Then they D/L the actual game and it's BORING.We want them to know BEFORE they bother with the setup and install that it's not BORING.Otherwise they will move on and finally give up on bothering to find a new game as we all have done in the past.
First, I think this page looks bad period. Video or no video.
It's not even very diff from the previous one... it's just not as nice. Rix ints shooting at whatever are just ugly, the Bios scout was wonderful.

Second I don't think videos on the front page are that important... I'm probably old fashioned tho. I don't recall games used to have videos on the boxes in the store...
IMO it's more important to deal with the outdated and ugly screenshots, which are probably the first thing people click through to.

Most important though, the intro video sucks... OK maybe not sucks but it looks silly.
It's hard to recall but I think it's silly even by Y2K standards... by today's standards it's bad and I don't mean visually, it's just badly directed, like an episode of Voyager season 1.

It would be a very diff matter if we had a collection of sleek HD gameplay clips.

However, it seems recruiting people to shoot these is impossible :(

Spinoza, you should take a look at AEM video here.
Besides that, I for one actually like the old intro video and would like to see it after AEM's one, but we can go discussing "likings" till the end of time, at each their own :)

I agree with you though that Bacon's unfinished page isn't the best, but I'm also confident we'll have s.thing better up soonish.

For those still in this thread, most of the discussion of the front page has been going on in bacon's tread here: http://www.freeallegiance.org/forums/index...0&start=520

Myself, Dorjan, and Spacejunk have been working on new designs. TE has thrown out the poll results for various reasons.

As far as in intro video, it already is included in my play list I have on my frontpage. I like having it there but I do use the background music from the intro video for my Allegiance Trailer vid so it is a little awkward.

New front page doesn't work in opera.
I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.

Remember, what I say is IMO always. If I say that something sucks, it actually means "I think it sucks" OK?

I wonder if TE even read over the page. Or tested it at all. I'm guessing no.

No idea why he'd through a "concept" page up. Quickly thrown together, not edited or tested. Certainly not finished. Bacon's old page wasn't ready to go live either, but was more ready than this.

I have a lot of respect for TE's work in keeping Allegiance alive, but things are being handled very poorly.

TONS of errors when I ran dreamweavers validation on it: http://www.GamingRivalry.com/Alleg/spacej...validation.htm

Newer browsers, except Opera are just forgiving enough to let it display as intended. The code needs to be cleaned up.

So, so far it seems to be broken in Opera, IE6, and IE8.

This page is also ugly, and I hate having to scroll to hit the community link ($#@! you I like my 1024x768). If you really want the video just put it on the old page. The old page looks very good, it looks professionally done, and it matches the theme of the forum. It is well thought out and tied together. The two pages I've seen so far present the exact same information in a much uglier format.

(Sorry to those who spent so much time making those pages. You're beautiful people on the inside, I'm sure)

a 3rd contender (which is unfinished but Is completing as you watch, please note the background is still the beta one. We never decided on a good background as this one finishes poorly for widescreens and is too large.)

this is Bacons/sp4wns design, Bacons writing with my coding.

Nothing is fixed and all is pending approval.
Something like this is nice. It intros you to Alleg without overwhelming you (the main problem with Alleg is the learning curve). I think there should be a simple, catchy "commercial" type main page that then leads to a "where's the beef" page.

Between the official choices, though, I'd go with Bacon's (Bacon: send that $20 endorsement fee we spoke about to vencain@hotmail.com, thanks).

Wasn't I going to send money to the winner? It's all been so confusing, I completely forgot.
