Hey guys, just a quick update on the server upgrades that are coming.

First of all, the december timeline has obviously been overshot. Sorry, it took longer than expected to get all the pieces ready to go.
I have everything on my end ready to go, and I'm pretty much ready to begin. However, there are two pieces which are not yet ready.

#1: the development server. Cort has told me it will take him a few more days to get this ready. If I were to perform the upgrade now, all devs would lose SVN access until Cort returns from his trip and has time to finish up (mid-January)

#2: My one-week promise. I promised all of you that I'd give you at least 1 week's notice of the server downtime since it will likely knock us offline for about half-a-day. (Best case scenario is only 1-2 hours, but there are always hiccups)

So, here's what I'm planning on doing.

One weekday after work (not sure which one yet), I'll go perform the upgrades. This will take Allegiance offline from roughly 6:30pm Eastern until 8:30pm Eastern on whatever day it's being done. I'm thinking that a Tuesday or Wednesday will work best since it won't disrupt squadgames or weekend play. This puts the tentative date for the upgrade as being one of January 5th, 6th, 12th or 13th.

When this occurs, the forums should remain online to tell people how to get to the beta servers. You can get your crack there until the main lobby is back up and running.

More info will follow as the timeline is solidified.
Until then, have a happy new year!

Allegiance core servers move to a new more powerful machine.

Don't thank me for the avatar, thank spliffy
He's the awesomeness behind it.

As for the servers, as long as I remain "in charge" of our head servers, I plan on giving the community some kind of upgrade every 2 years. This winter marked the 2 year mark that I've been "in charge" so I guess it was time.

I'm not sure if the upgrades will give any noticeable improvements, but I know they will give definite administrative improvements, so it should work out.

I hate to bring us down for a half-day but I'm glad to hear that nobody's pre-bitching about the outage. I guess they're saving it for post-bitching. haha.

Happy New Year!

TigerEye, you, of all people, should realize there is minimal pre-bitching around here! We just assume everything needing to be done is done . . . .
