AVG 8.5 no longer works with Allegiance on default settings (so far as initial reports go). This doesn't appear to be the usual 'Failure to connect' error but an actual issue between AVG and Allegiance.exe in it thinking it is a virus/trojan. So if you have AVG and are experiencing a message coming up with 'An Unknown Error Occured' and also trying to close ASGS gives another error.

Stay tuned for further updates. Solutions below.

Oh Also if you have AVG (8.5?) and are using XP as your OS and Allegiance is still working then you probably haven't updated AVG then :P However if you have updated (probably not advisable unless you don't mind removing AVG) and Allegiance still works then please post here.

SOLUTIONS

Number 1:

I'm using AVG free edition 8.5.421 and there is a way to get Allegiance to work without uninstalling AVG. Add the Xenocode directory to the exceptions list

Open AVG interface
Open Resident Shield menu
Click Manage Exceptions near the bottom of the screen
Click Add path
Find your local Xenocode directory C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Xenocode\
Apply

It worked for me, not sure if it's a general solution though
If you cannot see Local Settings and Application Data etc... then when you reach 'C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername' go to tools -> folder options -> view and then click on 'show hidden files and folder'

Number:

Uninstall AVG, Reboot.

Nice work. People can try that solution then to see if it fixes the problem.

I recently started getting smacked with the whole "Xenocode Generic Trojan" horse @#(!, I will try adding that as an exception tonight.

Thanks for jumping on this so fast, I thought Alleg finally croaked for me if it was being read as a trojan.

Thanks Barizanz.

I re-installed AVG and followed your precise instructions which was extremely successful.

I'm very surprised that people are still using 3d party AV softwares (free or paid) and losing time dealing with such issues.

Microsoft SE is the answer to all your problems.

It's not bundled with Windows because MS doesn't want more antitrust lawsuits like they had with IE but you really should consider it as part of the operating system.
